Lee Kempert’s superb customer service skills, energy and work ethic are among the attributes that have earned him the University of Wyoming Staff Employee of the Third Quarter award.

The award recognizes UW staff members for their efforts toward excellence in the workplace. Kempert will be honored at a public reception Tuesday, Oct. 20, from 1:30-3 p.m. in the Service Building conference room. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Kempert, coordinator of UW moving services in the Physical Plant, is frequently praised for providing exceptional service beyond what is expected.

“He considers options and offers helpful suggestions to improve the outcome of the service he provides. He wants nothing more than for the university and college to look their best for an event or for efficiency in the workplace,” wrote a nominator. “He offers the service he is responsible for with creativity, practicality, safety and efficiency.”

Another customer wrote, “He always has the equipment and tools needed for whatever job is at hand, or is willing to go get it! He is always willing to lend a hand, and is on time (or early) when there is a job to be done. He expects a lot from the crew, and it shows. He tries to find a better way to do what he does.”

“One thing I enjoy about my job is the daily mobility to be out and about on the beautiful UW campus, ability to interact with customers and students campuswide, and working as a team with Physical Plant departments,” says Kempert, who came to UW in 2011 after more than 25 years working in helping professions in the Laramie community. “However, the most enjoyable part of my job is interacting with UW customers and making sure before my crew and I leave a job that their moving needs are met and they are pleased.”

Kempert credits his present and former crew members for assisting him in changing the reputation and professionalism of the moving services department, particularly Dennis “Abe” Abramson. Additionally, he acknowledges the support and guidance of “all the delightful and outstanding front office and service building ladies.”

Employee of the Quarter nominees can be any UW staff employee and must receive three nomination forms from three separate individuals. Nominations must be submitted to the Staff Senate office. The forms are on the Web at The deadline to nominate someone for the fourth quarter is Friday, Dec. 4.
