A Laramie firm has been selected to remodel the University of Wyoming’s Hoyt Hall.
UW’s Board of Trustees today (Wednesday) voted to authorize a $2 million contract with Elk Ridge Builders & Design, selected from among four bidders in the project.
The renovation will include life-safety and accessibility improvements as required by the building code, and enhancements to interior finishes in faculty and staff offices, classrooms, study areas and other building spaces. The work also includes energy-efficient upgrades to current lighting, restroom renovations, installing new electrical and data systems wiring, and replacing the existing fire alarm system.
Built originally in 1916 as a women’s dormitory, Hoyt Hall is the home of UW’s Department of English, and the Department of Modern and Classical Languages.
The renovation isn’t scheduled to begin until January, after unexpected structural repairs are completed. Plans call for the building to be reoccupied in time for the fall 2016 semester.
Personnel in English, and Modern and Classical Languages have relocated to Crane Hall until the work is completed.
Also Wednesday, the Board of Trustees voted to grant an electrical line easement to Rocky Mountain Power on UW-owned property at Laramie Regional Airport to upgrade the electrical line for runway lights.
