Activities are scheduled at the University of Wyoming during Hunger and Homelessness Week Nov. 16-20.
The Service, Leadership and Community Engagement (SLCE) office will host events in the Wyoming Union breezeway. Events will raise awareness of hunger and homelessness problems in the country and Albany County, where 23.3 percent live below the poverty line.
Throughout the week, the SLCE office will ask for canned food donations to provide Thanksgiving baskets through Interfaith-Good Samaritan. Suggested items include stuffing, cranberry sauce, pie filling, corn, green beans, sweet potatoes, gravy and bread/roll mix. Donations can be made at the Wyoming Union information desk. The rest of the week will include the following activities:
-- Tuesday, Nov. 17, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.: Try to live on $3 a day or $21 a week with the “Food Stamp Challenge.”
-- Wednesday, Nov. 18, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.: Make a sign to better understand homelessness.
-- Thursday, Nov. 19, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.: Decorate an empty bowl as a reminder of those who do not have enough to eat.
-- Friday, Nov. 20, noon-1 p.m.: The film “Storied Streets” will be shown in the Wyoming Union Senate Chambers, followed by a discussion. The movie focuses on different types of people who experienced homelessness.
