University of Wyoming students recently collected more than 200 nonperishable food items for the Laramie Soup Kitchen as part of the fourth annual National Day of Service.
The Service, Leadership and Community Engagement (SLCE) office the past six years has sponsored the Spooky Sprint, a creative spin on a canned food drive. This year, members of the UW Multicultural Student Leadership Initiative and the SLCE Street Team worked with other UW students to collect 150 pounds of canned or boxed food for the National Day of Service, also known as Make a Difference Day.
“The Spooky Sprint had a great turnout. Our participants were really wonderful and helped us collect a lot of food that will get donated to the Laramie Soup Kitchen,” says Morganne Harper, SLCE Street Team intern.
For the event, participants dressed up in costumes and trick-or-treated in the neighborhoods surrounding UW, asking for donations. Ridley’s Family Market supplied shopping carts to help students collect the food items.
