Nichols, UW Trustees Finalize Presidential Contract

January 4, 2016

Laurie Nichols will assume the office of president of the University of Wyoming Monday, May 16, under the terms of a contract between her and the UW Board of Trustees.

The contract was completed following the trustees’ Dec. 18 selection of Nichols as UW’s 26th president. She will succeed President Dick McGinity, who has held the position since January 2014.

The three-year contract calls for Nichols to receive an annual base salary of $350,000, as previously announced. The contract also calls for UW to contribute $35,000 annually to a deferred compensation plan, provide an annual $48,000 housing allowance, make an annual $25,000 retention payment, and provide a vehicle, among other obligations.

Nichols comes to UW from South Dakota State University, where she has served as provost and executive vice president for academic affairs since 2009. She will have an appointment as a tenured full professor in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences in UW’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
