The University of Wyoming’s Service Leadership and Community Engagement (SLCE) office will host the annual Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service Saturday, Feb. 6.
The free event is from 1-4 p.m., beginning in the skylight lounge, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union, and is in conjunction with the Martin Luther King Jr. Days of Dialogue scheduled Monday, Feb. 1-Saturday, Feb. 6.
Various service opportunities will be offered for those attending the service day. Volunteers will participate in activities benefitting Ivinson Memorial Hospital, Interfaith-Good Samaritan, the Laramie Animal Shelter, SAFE Project and the Laramie Soup Kitchen.
Volunteers also have the opportunity to serve by writing “thank you” letters to veterans and planting flowers to help the university’s ACRES Student Farm sustainability project.
Students, staff, faculty and community members are encouraged to make the service day “a day on, not a day off” by spending a couple of hours participating in community service.
According to www.NationalService.gov, the MLK Day of Service’s goal is to empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers, create solutions to social problems and move community members closer to King's vision of a "beloved community."
