University of Wyoming Calendar for Feb. 15

These are among the activities scheduled Feb. 15-21 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Feb. 15, 8 a.m. -- “Slow Down,” a student exhibition, opens in UW Gallery 234, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union.

Monday, Feb. 15, 3:10 p.m. -- The Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Brandon Schmandt, associate professor of earth and planetary sciences at the University of New Mexico. He will discuss “Investigating Volcanic Arc Structure and Seismicity at Mount St. Helens with a 900-geophone Array” in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. Free.

Tuesday, Feb. 16, 5 p.m. -- The UW Biodiversity Institute will host a book release celebration for UW Professor Emeritus Steven Buskirk’s book, “Wild Mammals of Wyoming and Yellowstone National Park,” in the Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center, Room 138. Free.

Wednesday, Feb. 17, noon -- The School of Energy Resources Speaker Series presents the semester’s first Engineering Initiative Seminar with Mohamed Ahmed, assistant professor of civil engineering, and Sherif Gaweesh, Ph.D. student in civil engineering. Their talk, “Exploration of the Effect of Energy-Related Activities on Traffic Safety,” will be in the Engineering Building, Room 3076. Lunch provided. Free.

Wednesday, Feb. 17, noon -- The Wellness Wednesday Speaker Series presents Wanda Hulit, director of the Cardiopulmonary Department at Ivinson Memorial Hospital. She will discuss “How to Improve Your Sleep” in the Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center classroom, Room 115. Free.

Wednesday, Feb. 17, 7 p.m. -- Cowboys basketball vs. Fresno State in the Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary.

Wednesday, Feb. 17, and Thursday, Feb. 18, 7 p.m. -- The Student Activities Council and the UW Outdoor Program present the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour in the College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. Free.

Thursday, Feb. 18, 7 p.m. -- Studio WYO presents musicians Evan Gwin, Micah Truth and Micah Paisley in the Wyoming Union Gardens. Free.

Thursday, Feb. 18, 7:30 p.m. -- Trumpet player Peter Olstad will perform a concert with the Wyoming Jazz Ensemble and the UW Jazz Ensemble II in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. Tickets cost $10 for the public, $7 for senior citizens and $6 for students. Friday, Feb. 19, 6:30 p.m., 9 p.m., 11:30 p.m. -- Friday Night Fever presents “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay -- Part 2” in the Wyoming Union Family Room. Free.

Friday, Feb. 19, 7 p.m. -- Planetarium show, “Dust, Light, Dust: The Stellar Life Cycle.” A STAR Observatory tour follows at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in Room 204 of the Physical Sciences Building.

Friday, Feb. 19, 9 p.m. -- Friday Night Fever presents “Night at the Rink” at the Laramie Ice and Events Center. Free for UW students with a valid student ID.

Saturday, Feb. 20, 2 p.m. -- Cowgirls basketball vs. Colorado State in the Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary.

Sunday, Feb. 21, 3 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music’s spring Faculty Recital Series opens with “Old and New: Pivotal Masterworks for Clarinet and Piano” in the Performing Arts Center recital hall. Free.
