The University of Wyoming is once again competing in RecycleMania, a collegiate recycling competition managed by Keep America Beautiful.

RecycleMania is a friendly competition and benchmarking tool for college and university recycling programs to promote waste reduction activities to their campus communities, says Jim Goodman, UW recycling supervisor.

The official competition runs through April 2. During the competition, colleges across the United States and Canada report the amount of recycling and trash collected each week. They are ranked in various categories based on who recycles the most on a per capita basis. They also are ranked based on which schools have the best recycling rate as a percentage of total waste, and which schools generate the least amount of combined trash and recycling.

Last year, UW collected more than 150,000 pounds of recyclables during the competition.

“Our goal with RecycleMania is to raise awareness about our recycling program here at UW,” Goodman says. “UW also can enjoy some spirited competition with other Mountain West schools such as CSU and UNLV.”

More than 300 colleges are competing this year. For more information about the competition, go to
