Adam McVicker won first place and led Cheyenne’s McCormick Junior High School to the team championship at the recent 2016 Wyoming State Mathcounts competition at the University of Wyoming.

McVicker's teammate, Joshua Ahern, took second place; Garet Sharp, of Evanston’s Davis Middle School, took third; and C.J. Brown, of Powell Middle School, was fourth. The top four individual winners earned the opportunity to represent Wyoming at the national competition May 7-10 in Washington, D.C. The students will be accompanied by Kathleen McKinley, who coached the McCormick Junior High team.

Pinedale Middle School took second place in the team competition, and Davis Middle School was third.

“Open to all sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students, Mathcounts helps students understand how math is important to solve problems in everyday life,” says Jeff Anderson, state Mathcounts coordinator in the UW College of Engineering and Applied Science.
