Two University of Wyoming College of Business teams recently placed first at separate national competitions in Lexington, Ky., and Orlando, Fla.

As part of the Principle Business Leadership Institute (PBLI), representatives of UW’s Beta Nu chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi dominated both of the competitions.

This year, UW’s business fraternity sent four teams -- two to each location -- to compete in a “marketing and rebranding” case competition for a floral shop based in New Jersey. Five teams competed in each case competition, with UW claiming first and third place in both.

UW students Sara Fulmer, of Fort Collins, Colo.; Aysha Reeves, from Cheyenne; and Courtney Roberts, of Elizabeth, Colo., led the first-place team in Lexington. Mark Radich, from Cheyenne; Amelia Sheesley, of Lakewood, Colo.; and Abdelazim El Toukhy, from Cairo, Egypt, placed third.

In Orlando, UW business students Jade Jewkes, of Jackson; Lindsey King, of Westminster, Colo.; and Kate Mysse, from Red Lodge, Mont., claimed first place. On the third-place UW team were Hunter Grant, from Greybull; Michael Rotellini, of Sheridan; and Steve Watt, from Wyndmere, N.D.

The UW students received certificates and scholarships based on their placement in the competition.

Case competitions are typically the main attraction at PBLI events, testing participants in marketing, finance and accounting skills. PBLI events also consist of a variety of seminars and lectures for Alpha Kappa Psi members. UW’s Beta Nu chapter typically attends two PBLI events each year.

Last year, Beta Nu teams competed in case competitions in Orlando, Fla., and Dallas, Texas, placing first and second in Orlando, and third in Dallas.

Alpha Kappa Psi is the nation's oldest and largest professional business honorary and has chapters around the world.
