UW Trustees Approve Personnel Actions

The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees approved the following personnel items during its meeting Friday, May 13.

Administrative Appointments

Office of the President

Laurie Nichols as UW’s 26th president. She also will hold tenure at the rank of professor in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Nichols received a B.S. (1978) in home economics education from South Dakota State University, an M.Ed. (1984) in vocational and adult education from Colorado State University, and a PhD. in family and consumer sciences education (1988) from Ohio State University. Since 2009, she has served as provost and executive vice president for academic affairs for South Dakota State University. In 2008, she served as interim president for Northern State University. Prior to that appointment, she held administrative and faculty positions at South Dakota State University.

College of Health Sciences

School of Pharmacy

Kem Krueger as dean. He received a Pharm.D. (1993) from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and a Ph.D. (1998) in pharmaceutical science from the University of Arizona. Krueger was an associate professor at Auburn University from 2004-05, and has been an associate lecturer in the School of Pharmacy at UW since 2005. Krueger will remain a tenured associate professor in the School of Pharmacy.

Wyoming Institute for Disabilities (WIND)

Sandra Root-Elledge as executive director. She received a B.S. (2001) and an M.A. (2003) in sociology, both from UW. She has been associate director and interim director of WIND since 2008.

Outreach School

UW at Casper

Jefferson Edgens as associate dean/director. He received a B.A. (1989) in history from Presbyterian College, an MPA (1992) from the University of West Florida, and a Ph.D. (1997) in water policy and law from Michigan State University. Edgens has been an associate vice president of academic affairs and associate vice professor at Thomas University since 2015.

Department of Plant Sciences

Vivek Sharma as assistant professor. He received a T. Tech. (2008) in agricultural engineering from Punjab Agricultural University, and an M.S. (2011) and a Ph.D. (2014) in biological systems engineering, both from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Sharma has been a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln since 2015.

College of Business

Department of Economics and Finance

Pawan Jain as assistant professor. He has a Bachelor of Commerce (2000) from CSM University, a Master of Commerce (2002) from Chattrapati Sahuji Maharaj University, an M.S. (2008) in economics and finance and education, a Ph.D. (2008) in instructional design and technology from UW, and a Ph.D. (2013) in finance from the University of Memphis. Jain has been an assistant professor of finance at Central Michigan University since 2013.

Department of Professional Studies

William Holmes as assistant professor. He received a B.S. (1987) and an M.A. (1988) in elementary education, both from the University of New Mexico, and an Ed.D. (2012) in executive leadership from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. Holmes has been an assistant professor at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington since 2014.

Art Museum

Katie Christensen as assistant lecturer. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (2003) from UW and an MFA (2011) in 2D studies from Bowling Green State University. Christensen has been the curator of education and statewide engagement at the UW Art Museum since 2015.

Cooperative Extension Service

Sarah Torbert as associate extension educator. She received a B.S. (1998) in agricultural education from the University of Wisconsin, River Falls, and an M.S. (2002) in training and development from the University of Wisconsin, Stout. Torbert has been a youth development agent at the University of Wisconsin since 2013.

College of Health Sciences

Division of Social Work

Heath Walters as associate lecturer. He received a B.A. (1997) in behavioral science from Northwest College, an M.A. (2000) in Christian counseling from Global/Berean University, an MSW (2003) from Walla Walla College, and a Ph.D. (2010) in counselor education and supervision from Regent University. Walters has been the Master of Social Work site coordinator at Boise State University since 2010.
