A pair of University of Wyoming Police Department (UWPD) German shepherd canine officers were recognized with certificates of appreciation during the recent Laramie Kennel Club (LKC) show.
Canine officer Mulder (UWPD handler Officer Josh Holland) and canine officer Enzo (UWPD handler Sgt. Chad Bade) were awarded certificates over the Memorial Day weekend during the LKC’s annual American Kennel Club (AKC) licensed all-breed dog show and obedience trial at the Albany County Fairgrounds.
The national AKC Canine Officer Program provides recognition for dogs that work in public service roles for government agencies, such as police, military, border patrol and the Transportation Security Administration. Dogs and their handlers are awarded a “certificate of appreciation” at the beginning of the all-breed dog show.
“Purpose-bred dogs serve our communities in various ways that provide an extra level of security for all of us,” says Doug Ljungren, AKC’s vice president of sports and events.
The local recognition was in conjunction with obedience trials returning to the LKC show after a long absence.
