UW Music Department to Host Retreat, Recitals

Musicians from throughout the country, including students at the University of Wyoming, will participate in workshops and recitals during the Whole Musician Retreat July 10-17. The UW Department of Music hosts the weeklong event.
Participants will work with internationally acclaimed Whole Musician faculty and Nicole Riner, UW visiting assistant professor of flute, to develop every aspect of their musical selves -- from performance and stage conduct to career counseling, and mental and physical health.
The Whole Musician team is composed of flutists Meg Griffith, Megan Lanz, Christopher Lee and Rik Noyce. In addition to performing and teaching, each musician offers expertise to address the mental and physical demands placed on performers.
Griffith, a certified yoga instructor, helps performers become more aware of their physical and mental practices. Lanz uses her knowledge as a certified meditation instructor to help musicians with performance anxiety. Lee, a certified personal trainer specialist, helps musicians with fitness planning. A certified empowerment coach, Noyce offers individualized life and performance coaching.
As part of the weeklong retreat, four mixed chamber music performances are planned:
-- Sunday, July 10, 8 p.m.: faculty recital and welcome reception.
-- Wednesday, July 13, 7:30 p.m.: “Open Mic Night” with participants.
-- Friday, July 15, 7:30 p.m.: Whole Musician Performers’ Recital, part I.
-- Saturday, July 16, 7:30 p.m.: Whole Musician Performers’ Recital, part II.
All performances will take place in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. Admission is free.
