The University of Wyoming Art Museum will host an early childhood educator workshop Saturday, Aug. 27, from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

The workshop, “Using Art to Create a Dynamic, Diverse and Interdisciplinary Teaching Practice,” will use the Art Museum’s exhibitions, inquiry model and “Museum as Classroom” approach. Participants will examine co-equal arts integration as a means to develop best practices and educational leadership in the early childhood classroom. Participants also will examine the importance of culturally relevant pedagogical practices in fostering child growth and development.

Early childhood educators and pre-K educators are invited to participate in this professional development opportunity. Participants will be able to submit a form to Wyoming Statewide Training and Resource System (STARS) to receive six hours of credit upon completion of the workshop. For more information about Wyoming STARS credit, visit www.wyostars.org.

Cost of the workshop is $40 per person. Lunch is included. Registration forms are due by Wednesday, Aug. 24. Forms are available at the Art Museum website at www.uwyo.edu/artmuseum/museum-as-classroom/teacher-education/early-childhood-educator-workshop/index.html.

For more information, contact Master Teacher Heather Bender at (307) 766-3515 or hbender1@uwyo.edu; visit the website at www.uwyo.edu/artmuseum; or follow the museum on Facebook.

Through its “Museum as Classroom” approach, the UW Art Museum places art at the center of learning for all ages. Located in the Centennial Complex at 2111 Willett Drive in Laramie, the museum is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday hours are extended to 7 p.m. February through April and September through November. Admission is free.
