UW Student

The name has changed, but the goal remains the same: Bring quality entertainment to University of Wyoming students.

The UW Campus Activities Center (CAC) has developed a campuswide activities group called 7220 Entertainment. Throughout the year, the group will select, plan, promote and present a variety of popular entertainment programs and films that enhance the social and cultural life of UW students.

The creation of 7220 Entertainment is an effort to re-brand current CAC programs. The programs that will be combined into 7220 Entertainment are the Films Committee, Fine Arts and Lectures Committee, Large Scale Events Committee, Late Night Events Committee, Weekly Events Committee, and Visual and Cultural Arts.

7220 Entertainment is looking for committee members to join one or more of its five committees responsible for planning student events during the academic year. A general interest meeting to learn more about 7220 Entertainment is scheduled at 5 p.m. in Pete’s Game Room in the Wyoming Union Thursday, Sept. 1.

The Films Committee plans free, full-length feature films on a weekly basis. Selections may include current major studio releases, documentaries, cult films, throwback films and public domain films. The committee meets Wednesdays at 4 p.m. in Room 012 of the Wyoming Union.

The Fine Arts and Lectures Committee provides UW and the surrounding community with free cultural, artistic, educational programs and thought-provoking lectures.

“The purpose of this committee is to enhance and cultivate diversity, and to provide educational and cultural opportunities that are unique to the campus and expand the knowledge of participants,” says Madeline Curry, CAC marketing coordinator.

The committee also oversees the operations and exhibitions for Gallery 234, located in the Wyoming Union’s lower floor. The committee meets at 5 p.m. Mondays in Room 012 of the Wyoming Union.

The Large Scale Events Committee brings large-name entertainers to UW. The committee attempts to deliver diverse acts throughout the academic year, including speakers, musicians, comedians and other performers.

“The committee is expected to generate revenue from its events in order to offset costs to allow the committee to bring more acts throughout the academic year,” Curry says.

This committee meets at 6 p.m. Wednesdays in Room 012 of the Wyoming Union.

“The Late Night Events Committee provides UW students with free, quality entertainment that is fun, unique and exciting that takes place during targeted prime social hours,” Curry says.

The committee is expected to plan and execute larger scale, multi-tiered programs on specifically targeted nights and weekends as determined by CAC, Curry adds. The group meets at 4 p.m. Thursdays in Room 012 of the Wyoming Union.

The Weekly Events Committee schedules events and activities for the student population to enjoy on a weekly basis. Curry says the committee develops a comprehensive, diverse schedule of events throughout the year, including music, comedy, speakers, spoken word, trips and special events.

The committee meets at 5 p.m. Tuesdays in Room 012 of the Wyoming Union.
