Paula Poundstone brings her brand of stand-up comedy to the opening University of Wyoming Cultural Programs fall lineup Friday, Sept. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall.

Tickets cost $35 for the public; $30 for senior citizens, UW faculty and staff; and $15 for students. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

Each year, UW Cultural Programs brings a variety of internationally known performers to campus, often at ticket prices much less than at larger venues. This season features six performances during the fall semester and six spring semester performances.

“UW Cultural Programs is thrilled to open its 2016-17 performance season with comedienne Paula Poundstone,” says Janelle Fletcher, UW Cultural Programs director. “Paula Poundstone marks the first comedian on the Cultural Programs series in its greater than 30-year history, and she’s sure to delight. She’s a frequent guest on NPR’s top-rated weekly news quiz show, ‘Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me,’ and brilliant improviser. We guarantee a night of laughter you don’t want to miss.”

Best known for her stand-up comedy acts, Poundstone also is an author, actress, interviewer and commentator. Beginning in the late 1980s, she performed a series of one-hour HBO comedy specials. Recognized as one of Comedy Central’s 100 greatest stand-up comics of all time, Poundstone won an American Comedy Award for Best Female Standup Comic, and was voted into the Comedy Hall of Fame in 2010.

She has released two comedy CDs: “I Heart Jokes: Paula Tells Them in Boston” and “I Heart Jokes: Paula Tells Them in Maine.” Her first book, “There’s Nothing in This Book That I Meant to Say,” was published in 2006, and her second book will be released this fall.

Poundstone tours the country extensively, performing stand-up comedy in theaters and performing arts centers. She is known for never doing the same act twice and spontaneously interacting with the crowd.

The five remaining fall Cultural Programs are: Repertory Dance Theatre of Salt Lake City, Utah, Wednesday, Oct. 5; Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, Friday, Oct. 21; Joseph Cashore’s Marionettes, Thursday, Nov. 3; 17-year-old acclaimed pianist Daniel Hsu, Friday, Nov. 18; and the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, Tuesday, Dec. 6.
