Annual UW Collegiate Chorale Candlelight Concert Nov. 29 and 30

The University of Wyoming Collegiate Chorale will perform by candlelight Tuesday, Nov. 29, and Wednesday, Nov. 30, both at 7:30 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Cathedral, located at 104 S. Fourth St. in Laramie.

Tickets cost $10.50 for the public, $7.50 for senior citizens and $6.50 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts box office, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

UW Choral Activities Director Nicole Lamartine directs the choir, accompanied by pianist Lisa Rickard.

Lamartine says the holiday season brings an opportunity for sharing, giving, healing, peace and strengthening community, which reflects the program’s theme “Quiet Center.” The program offers a variety of music to highlight the theme. The American folk hymn “Come and Find the Quiet Center” serves as the connective music, and members of the choir offer their own poetry in between the music. Hits by Lukas Graham and Ruth B add variety to the program, and Jeff Selden will join on guitar throughout the concert.

The graduating UW seniors from the ensemble are featured on a Medieval carol “There is No Rose,” and student conductor Aubrey Heessel will lead Eric Whitacre’s “Glow.” Rickard will offer piano improvisations on well-known carols as pre-concert music.

As is tradition, the concert concludes with candlelight illuminating the church and the audience singing “Silent Night” along with the performers.
