New UW Scholarship Available for Veterans

The Students Supporting Veterans (SSV) scholarship committee at the University of Wyoming is accepting applications for the newly created Connor Montgomery Cloud Memorial Scholarship for Veterans. The application deadline is Friday, Nov. 11.

One-semester scholarships will be offered for the fall 2016 and spring 2017 semesters.

To be eligible for the scholarships, applicants must be veterans or dependents of veterans. Applicants may be new or continuing students in any UW degree-granting program at any location where a UW degree program is offered. Scholarships are available to undergraduate and graduate students, and to full- and part-time students. Priority will be given to first-year UW veteran students.

Applicants must submit the scholarship application and documentation of veteran status by emailing ssv4uw@gmail.com. The application can be downloaded from the UW Veterans Services Center website at www.uwyo.edu/vetservices. In addition, applicants must have filed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Scholarships will be awarded based on information included within the application; academic potential and success; class standing; financial need; and extenuating circumstances.

Funding for the Connor Montgomery Cloud Memorial Scholarship for Veterans comes from the COMBAT Color Fun Run 2016, which took place in Laramie last April.

The scholarship is named in memory of Connor Montgomery Cloud, son of Charles and Cynthia Cloud, Wyoming state auditor. Luke Cloud, Connor’s brother and a former SSV member at UW, helped create the scholarship and the COMBAT Color Fun Run in Laramie. The Cloud family consists of four generations of Marines, including Charles and Luke, a UW College of Engineering and Applied Science graduate. Other family members have served in the Army, Navy and Air Force.

For more information about the scholarship, email SSV at ssv4uw@gmail.com.
