Willena Stanford Diversity Award Nominations Being Accepted at UW

November 18, 2016

Nominations for the diversity award honoring Willena Stanford, a former University of Wyoming African American and Diaspora Studies instructor, will be accepted until Wednesday, Nov. 23.

The award is available to any UW student enrolled for the 2017 spring semester, including undergraduate and graduate students, on-campus and outreach students, and those with full- or part-time status.

Nominations will be accepted from UW students, faculty, staff and administrators. Nominations should be in a one-page letter sent to Macki Snyder, Associated Students of UW adviser, at or Room 020 of the Wyoming Union.

The nomination letter should include the nominee’s name, class standing, major, and how the nominee has enhanced and supported diversity at UW. The nominators should include information about themselves including their names, titles, contact information and relation to the nominees.

A committee, composed of representatives of the steering committee and the Multicultural Affairs sector of the Dean of Students Office, will make the selection. The winner will be announced and all nominees will be recognized at the Martin Luther King Jr. march and community supper Monday, Jan. 30. The winner will receive a $500 gift card from the University Store. The Martin Luther King Jr. Days of Dialogue (MLK DOD) steering committee funds the award.

The award was created in honor of Stanford, a former member of the MLK DOD committee who had a strong commitment to the education of all students and made significant contributions to diversity at UW.
