University of Wyoming Calendar for Dec. 5

These are among the activities scheduled Dec. 5-11 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Dec. 5, noon -- The UW Department of Political Science presents Visiting Simpson Scholar Sascha Engel. He will discuss “Resilient Wyoming?” in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. A luncheon will take place before the discussion at 11:45 a.m. Free.

Monday, Dec. 5, 3:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Larisa DeSantis from Vanderbilt University. DeSantis’s talk, “Clarifying Mammalian Responses to Climate Change: Lessons Learned from Deep-Time Experiments,” will take place in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. Free.

Monday, Dec. 5, 7 p.m. -- Cowboy basketball vs. Colorado Christian, Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary.

Monday, Dec. 5, 7:30 p.m. -- UW Department of Music faculty and students will perform “American Notes: Chamber Music of Libby Larsen” in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. Free.

Tuesday, Dec. 6, 7 p.m. -- Planetarium show, “This Month’s Sky.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204.

Tuesday, Dec. 6, 7:30 p.m. -- UW Cultural Programs presents Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain in the Performing Arts concert hall. Tickets cost $23 for the public, $19 for senior citizens and $10 for students. Wednesday, Dec. 7, noon -- “Lunchtime Conversations with Curators” will take place in the UW Art Museum. The event will feature an informal gallery walk-through with stories behind the art, a question-and-answer session, and time with the exhibition experts. Visitors are encouraged to bring lunch and continue the conversation following the event. Free.

Wednesday, Dec. 7, 4:30-6 p.m. -- UW President Laurie Nichols and other UW leaders will host a community meeting to solicit input on a strategic plan for UW. The listening session will be at the Albany County Public Library.

Thursday, Dec. 8, 4:30-6:30 p.m. -- UW President Laurie Nichols and her husband, Tim, will host a holiday open house at the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center. A variety of holiday treats and activities will be available. Free.

Thursday, Dec. 8-Saturday, Dec. 10, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Theatre and Dance presents “Women Playing Hamlet” in the Performing Arts Thrust Theatre. Tickets cost $14 for the public, $11 for senior citizens and $7 for students. Friday, Dec. 9, 2 p.m. -- The multicultural graduation ceremony will take place in the Wyoming Union Ballroom.

Friday, Dec. 9, 4 p.m. -- Fall commencement for the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the College of Arts and Sciences will take place in the Arts and Sciences auditorium. 

Friday, Dec. 9, 6-8 p.m. -- A reception for Alexa Blooding and Robert Bryans, student artists, will take place in the Visual Arts Building, THIS and THAT galleries. Free.

Friday, Dec. 9, 6:30 p.m. -- Cowgirl basketball vs. Idaho, Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary.

Friday, Dec. 9, 8 p.m. -- Planetarium show, “From Bang to Bust.” A STAR Observatory tour (weather dependent) follows at 9 p.m. Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204.

Friday, Dec. 9, 10 p.m. -- 7220 Entertainment and the Wellness Center present an end-of-semester finals destresser for UW students in the Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center. Free.

Saturday, Dec. 10, 10 a.m. -- Fall commencement for the College of Business, the College of Health Sciences and the College of Engineering and Applied Science will take place in the Arts and Sciences auditorium. 

Saturday, Dec. 10, 3 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music presents “German and U.S. Music” in the Performing Arts recital hall. Free.

Saturday, Dec. 10, 4 p.m. -- Cowboy basketball vs. Montana, Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary.

Saturday, Dec. 10, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 11, 3 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music presents its gala holiday concert in the Performing Arts concert hall. Tickets cost $10 for the public, $7 for senior citizens and $6 for students.
