Campus Construction Update for Jan. 15

These are among the construction activities scheduled Jan. 15-21 at the University of Wyoming:

Colder Weather Advisory (UW Operations) -- UW Operations asks building occupants to assist with ensuring buildings and facilities are safe and secure. Make sure all windows and doors are completely closed with windows latched at the end of each day, and report any doors or windows that you are unable to close and secure to the Service Desk (766-6225).

Snow Removal (UW Operations) -- Crews will remove snow as needed throughout the season. Watch for snow-removal equipment; be careful and safe during snow events. Call the Service Desk (766-6225) to report icy spots and problem areas.

UW Operations reports the following activities for the week:

Biological and Physical Sciences Buildings (Shepard Construction, Rawlins; January 2017) -- Replacement of the Biological Sciences northeast entrance and Physical Sciences southwest entrance is nearing completion. Card swipes will be added to the new entrances once they are complete. Please be cautious of crews and equipment around this area.

Wyoming State Vet Chemistry Lab (UW Paint Shop) -- Finn tube radiation heat cover will be painted in the west lobby. Use caution around the work area.

Ross Hall (UW Operations and Marshall Contracting, Laramie; January 2017) -- Construction of the west stair ramp is ongoing, with an anticipated completion date of Jan. 20.

Education Building (Arcon Inc., Laramie; August 2017) -- Construction is ongoing for the Education Building window replacement project. Scaffolding will remain on the south side of the building to enable ongoing awning repairs. Work has resumed on the south side of the second floor and southeast corner of the basement. Replacement of these windows is expected to improve energy efficiency and occupant comfort. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Agriculture Building (Mastec, Denver, Colo.; November 2016) -- A new AT&T Cellular site on the east roof of the building is up and running. The contractor will complete punch-list items in the spring when weather allows.

High Bay Research Facility (Haselden Wyoming Constructors, Laramie; scheduled completion Jan. 4, 2017) -- Construction of the building is substantially complete, with resolution of punch-list items ongoing. Installation of furniture and owner-provided equipment is underway. Final preparations for laboratory occupancy are being completed, and lab equipment moves have begun.

Engineering Education and Research Building (EERB) (Construction manager GE Johnson Construction Wyoming, Casper; spring 2019) -- Deep foundations are complete. Footing, foundations and concrete walls are underway. “No parking” signs will go up on the east side of 12th Street for the duration of the project. Please observe direction signs placed within the streets around the project.

Wyoming State Vet Lab Renovations (BSL-3) (General contractor Sampson Construction, Cheyenne; June 2017) -- Wall framing and topping out, plumbing, electrical and ductwork rough-ins continue. Painting of the walls in the necropsy room is underway. Exterior wall framing and sheathing associated with the emergency exit is complete. The first of the exhaust fans will be delivered next week and the balance the following week. Exhaust fan replacement will take place over the weekend starting Jan. 19. Parking and traffic at the southeast side of the building will not be allowing during the fan installation.  The renovated cagewash room is complete. Be cautious around heavy equipment.

Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts (General contractor Sampson Construction, Cheyenne; November 2016) -- The project includes installation of a sanitary lift station for the building. Restrooms and water will be shut off in the east end of the building during this process. Please use an alternate restroom. The parking lot is open for use again. Use caution around equipment and work activities.

Arena-Auditorium Addition and Renovations (General contractor Sletten Construction of Wyoming Inc., Cody; October 2017) -- The project includes an addition to the east side of the building, which will provide a new major façade to the facility. The concourse will be renovated to provide improved concession areas, merchandise areas, restrooms, way finding and an upgraded appearance. A new central ticket office will be created to serve the A-A as well as War Memorial Stadium. A concession commissary will be developed within the southeast portion of the addition to serve the A-A, War Memorial Stadium and other athletics events. A limited-use elevator will be installed to provide access for patrons seated on or near the arena floor. A new smoke evacuation system also will be installed within the facility. Parking on the east side of the building will be blocked for the project duration. The grade beams and piers are complete for the commissary addition. The tall curved wall at the main entry will finish being formed and poured this week. Access to the A-A will remain open during the project, but be cautious of equipment, vehicles and construction crews in the area.

Visual Arts Building (UW Operations Electrical and Plumbing shops, Compression Leasing Services; January 2017) -- The building’s air compressor has been relocated to a new ancillary building in the northeast corner of the sculpture yard. The air compressor will be back on line for spring semester classes. Plumbing and electrical work is being completed in the wood shop and northeast corner of the sculpture yard. Please use caution around crews and equipment.

Mick and Susie McMurry High Altitude Performance Center (Construction manager at risk GE Johnson Construction Wyoming LLC, Jackson; June 2018) -- The project includes a two-story addition to the existing Rochelle Athletics Center (RAC) and a complete renovation of the existing facility for the UW Department of Athletics. This building expands to the south of the existing RAC and features a combination of curtainwall, stone and cast stone accents. This building will employ LEED practices, both in design and construction. The building bears on rammed aggregate piers, with a sloping site down to the existing playing field. The addition will provide a new state-of-the-art weightlifting facility, locker rooms, hydrotherapy pools, academic center and a training table that will provide a high-quality experience for UW student-athletes. The project will feature a new two-story grand entrance that will make a statement as patrons enter from the south side. Parking on the north side of the building will be blocked for the project duration. Access to the Arena-Auditorium will remain open during the project via Gate 6 at the stadium across the north side of the field, and via Gate 8 with access across the north RAC sidewalk. Excavation and foundation preparation are in progress and continue through today. Foundation forming is in progress, and concrete placement will begin Jan. 14. All doors on the south and southeast sides of the RAC will be off-limits for entry and exit. Please be cautious of equipment, vehicles and construction crews in the area.

Physical Sciences Building (UW Operations, Paint Shop) -- Painting of interior public spaces is underway. Painters will focus on paintable corridors and stairwells. Painting will take a few weeks to complete. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Casper Family Practice Residency Center (Haass Construction; Jan. 20, 2017) -- Carpet is being removed from the north and south stairwell walls. Drywall is being repaired, taped, textured and painted. Please use caution in the area.

Engineering Building, Petroleum Wing (Colorado Hazard Control, Denver; December 2016) -- Colorado Hazard Control has completed clearing work surfaces to allow for the installation of conduit in the Petroleum Wing of the Engineering Building. Work will be underway throughout the remainder of January to install conduit in the vertical shaft area of Lab 1095A. This work will allow for upcoming IT network upgrades. Please be cautious of crews and equipment around this area.

Engineering Building, Petroleum Wing (Marshall Contracting, Laramie; January 2017) -- Work to install a new doorway for IT access to Room 2101A is ongoing. Work will be contained in Room 2101A and the adjacent rooms, with workers moving in and out of the building as necessary. There may be some dust and noise. Please be cautious of work crews and equipment in this area.

Washakie Dining Center (UW Operations, Paint Shop) -- Painting of the pillars and some walls in the dining area has begun and will take a few days to complete. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

American Heritage Center (UW Shops, January 2017) -- Removal of the lobby concrete information desk will occur upon snow removal completion. Use caution around the work area.

Casper Family Practice (GW Mechanical; January 2017) -- The backup boiler is being replaced. Please use caution around crews and equipment.

The following projects are complete:

Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts (The Plumbing Company, Laramie; February 2017) -- Work to reroute and extend the northwest sump line through the building and addition is complete.
