Each year, UW Cultural Programs brings a variety of internationally known performers to campus, often at ticket prices much less than at larger venues. This season features six performances during the spring semester.
“UW Cultural Programs presents a ‘superstar-filled’ spring season as we welcome tap great, Savion Glover, Irish ensemble Danu and musical theater improv comedy,” says Janelle Fletcher, UW Cultural Programs director. “With a lineup like this, we make date night easy and bring big city culture right to your doorstep. We recommend getting tickets early for these superstar shows, with the added perk of being among the first to witness next year’s season of greats.”
Escher String Quartet is making an impression on the United States and Europe after winning the Avery Fisher Career Grant, an award presented to few chamber ensembles. The quartet has performed at Wigmore Hall, Alice Tully Hall, the Kennedy Center, and Ravinia and Caramoor festivals. Escher is best known for its recordings of Alexander von Zemlinsky’s complete string quartets.
The ensemble features a wide style of musical interests, from jazz to Latin, often collaborating with separate musicians from each. This collaboration includes working with young musicians at institutions such as the Royal Academy of Music in London and Campos do Jordao Music Festival in Brazil.
The Boston Globe calls the Escher String Quartet a “finely honed technique and focused ensemble blend.”
