The University of Wyoming Department of Music’s Faculty Recital Series opens its spring season with a performance by guest pianist Cristina Capparelli Wednesday, March 1.
The free public concert is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. The program will feature works by J.S. Bach, Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos and Frédéric Chopin.
Brazilian pianist Capparelli is a leading figure in the world of music. She frequently appears as a soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, guest teacher and lecturer in the U.S., Canada, England, France and Portugal. She has performed in various venues across the world, including Jordan Hall in Boston and London’s Wigmore Hall.
Capparelli teaches music at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. Many of her former students have won national and international piano competitions, and have faculty positions in renowned music schools throughout North and South America.
She received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Boston University College of Fine Arts and a Master of Music degree from the New England Conservatory.
