“15 Years of Body Images,” paintings of the body by the body, will be on display beginning Monday, March 6, in Gallery 234, located in the lower level of the University of Wyoming Union.
Presented by 7220 Entertainment, Christine Sanvik’s work will be on display through Thursday, March 23. A reception is scheduled Monday, March 6, from 6-8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
The paintings are unique because the paint is applied directly to the canvas with Sanvik’s body. It makes every painting a representation of her body over the course of 15 years, she says.
“My work is unique in that I paint with my body, so the paint is applied directly to mya canvas from my body,” Sanvik says. “Because every print is an exact representation of my body at the time, these paintings are actual representations of my body at different ages.”
She says the extra details she adds appear to be indicative of her personal view of her body.
“I add details, by hand, which have proven to be somewhat reflective of my personal body image at the time the pieces were painted,” she says.
