Campus Construction Update for April 9

These are among the construction activities scheduled April 9-15 at the University of Wyoming:

Colder Weather Advisory (UW Operations) -- UW Operations asks building occupants to assist with ensuring buildings and facilities are safe and secure. Make sure all windows and doors are completely closed with windows latched at the end of each day, and report any doors or windows that you are unable to close and secure to the Service Desk (766-6225).

Snow Removal (UW Operations) -- Crews will remove snow as needed throughout the season. Watch for snow-removal equipment; be careful and safe during snow events. Call the Service Desk (766-6225) to report icy spots and problem areas.

UW Operations reports the following activities for the week:

Education Building (Arcon Inc., Laramie; August 2017) -- Construction is ongoing for the Education Building window replacement project. Scaffolding will remain on the south side of the building to enable ongoing awning repairs. The next batch of windows to be replaced will be on the north side of the building. This work will begin once school is finished. Replacement of these windows is expected to improve energy efficiency and occupant comfort. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Agriculture Building (Mastec, Denver, Colo.; November 2016) -- A new AT&T Cellular site on the east roof of the building is up and running. The contractor will complete punch-list items in the spring when weather allows.

High Bay Research Facility (Haselden Wyoming Constructors, Laramie; scheduled completion Jan. 4, 2017) -- Construction of the building is substantially complete, with resolution of punch-list items ongoing. Installation of furniture is complete. Installation of owner-provided laboratory equipment continues. Landscaping is to be completed in the late spring. Laboratory equipment moves are scheduled for completion in early summer.

Wyoming State Vet Lab Renovations (BSL-3) (General contractor Sampson Construction, Cheyenne; June 2017) -- Finishing framing and production drywall are underway. Be cautious around heavy equipment.

Arena-Auditorium Addition and Renovations (General contractor Sletten Construction of Wyoming Inc., Cody; October 2017) -- The project includes an addition to the east side of the building, which will provide a new major façade to the facility. The concourse will be renovated to provide improved concession areas, merchandise areas, restrooms, way finding and an upgraded appearance. A new central ticket office will be created to serve the A-A as well as War Memorial Stadium. A concession commissary will be developed within the southeast portion of the addition to serve the A-A, War Memorial Stadium and other athletics events. A limited-use elevator will be installed to provide access for patrons seated on or near the arena floor. A new smoke evacuation system also will be installed within the facility. Parking on the east side of the building will be blocked for the project duration. Work inside the concourse has begun. Steel erection continues. Access to the A-A is closed. Be cautious of equipment, vehicles and construction crews in the area.

Mick and Susie McMurry High Altitude Performance Center (Construction manager at risk GE Johnson Construction Wyoming LLC, Jackson; June 2018) -- Steel erection for the building is in progress. Although overhead work will be limited to within the construction fence, there will be mobilization of cranes, along with heavier truck traffic in this area. The crane has been moved to the south center of the new building footprint. This will limit the pedestrian access across the north side of the football field on the concrete walkway. Pedestrians will now access the Fieldhouse and the Arena-Auditorium by walking across the field itself; Gate 6 will remain closed until the exterior site work and hardscapes are complete. Access to the Fieldhouse and the A-A via the north end of the field can only be achieved via Gate 4 during games now. The path is slightly south of the north goalposts. All other pedestrian access routes remain. Please use caution when in or near this area.

Physical Sciences Building (UW Operations, Paint Shop) -- Painting of interior public spaces is underway. Painters will focus on paintable corridors and stairwells. Painting will take a few weeks. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

American Heritage Center (Arcon Inc., Laramie; April 2017) -- Removal of the lobby concrete information desk is complete, and colorant will be added to the floor patch upon curing. Use caution around the work area.

Spanish Walk Building “D” (UW Operations, Paint Shop) -- Renovation of apartments D28 and D18 began in March. The process is expected to take a few weeks. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts (General contractor Sampson Construction, Cheyenne; April 2017) -- Roof work is complete. The next item will be to finish the landscaping on the south side. This work is expected to begin once the weather warms. Please be cautious of crews and equipment around this area.

College of Law (Plumbing Shop, UW Operations) -- Installation of a new ADA-compliant drinking water and bottle filling station is taking place in the basement of the College of Law Building. Work will cause noise disturbance at times, as it is in the library area. Please use caution around crews.

Engineering Education and Research Building (EERB) (Construction manager GE Johnson Construction Wyoming, Casper; spring 2019) -- Underground utility work has started. Concrete high/low walls are complete, and concrete pier caps are complete. Click here to see a map showing revisions to bus routes and street closures. Please observe all construction signs. A significant amount of work also will take place near the Anthropology Building. Please stay clear of the work zone.

Agriculture C and Engineering Buildings (Summit Sealants, Montrose, Colo.; September 2017) -- Summit Sealants will paint, caulk and conduct minor repairs to the exteriors of Agriculture C and Engineering. Please use caution around crews.
