SBDC Webinar Focuses on Woman-Owned Small Businesses

The Small Business Administration (SBA) Woman-Owned Small Business program can provide an advantage in winning government contracts for businesses that are owned and controlled by women.

Learn about SBA program eligibility requirements, benefits and the process to certify a business as woman-owned during a webinar, titled “Woman-Owned Small Businesses: Advantages in Government Contracting,” and sponsored by the Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Thursday, July 20, from 11 a.m.-noon.

The SBDC is a partnership among the University of Wyoming, the Wyoming Business Council and the U.S. SBA. The SBDC focuses on educating small-business owners and potential owners on how to successfully start and operate small businesses. The SBDC’s main office is located at UW.

Brett Housholder and Andrea Lewis, both of the Wyoming SBDC Network Procurement Technical Assistance (PTAC) team, will present this session. Each has more than 10 years of experience helping businesses with government contracting issues, including required government registrations; finding government contracting opportunities; marketing to government agencies; and applying for government certification programs.

“The federal government provides some advantages for women-owned businesses to obtain government contracts,” says Cindy Unger, business adviser for the Wyoming SBDC. “This webinar will detail the requirements to be certified as a woman-owned business and explain the possible advantages.”

There is no fee for this program, but attendees must register at www.wyomingsbdc.org to obtain the link to the webinar. A link to the recorded program will be sent to those who register, in the event that they are not available at that time.

Reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities will be made if requested at least two weeks in advance. For more information, call the SBDC at (307) 382-0947.

The Wyoming SBDC Network is a business advising group of the Wyoming SBDC, PTAC, Market Research Center and SBIR/STTR Initiative. The network’s mission is to help Wyoming entrepreneurs succeed. Advising and most market research activities are free of charge to Wyoming residents.

The SBDC is funded, in part, through a cooperative agreement with the SBA. Additional support is provided by the Wyoming Business Council and UW.
