Campus Construction Update for Sept. 3

(Note: The weekly construction update highlights only projects with new developments. Comprehensive updates are distributed monthly. For the most recent comprehensive update, click here.)

These are among the construction activities scheduled Sept. 3-9 at the University of Wyoming:

McWhinnie Hall (UW Operations, Plumbing Shop) -- Wednesday, Sept. 6, from 6 a.m.-noon, the domestic hot and cold water supply will be unavailable. Crews will be working on the system and, unfortunately, don’t have the ability to isolate while doing so. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Arena-Auditorium Addition and Renovations (General contractor Sletten Construction of Wyoming Inc., Cody; October 2017) -- Parking on the east side of the building will be blocked for the project duration. Access to the A-A is closed. Be cautious of equipment, vehicles and construction crews in the area.

Spanish Walk Apartments (Arcon Inc. and Lance’s Painting, Laramie; August 2017) -- These buildings will undergo exterior renovation. Please use caution in the area. To ensure privacy, keep blinds closed.

Central Energy Plant (Arcon Inc., Laramie; October 2017) -- Construction fence is set up around the work area. The sidewalk on the west side of 19th Street is closed, and 19th Street will be blocked occasionally. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Engineering Education and Research Building (EERB) (Construction manager GE Johnson Construction Wyoming LLC, Casper; spring 2019) -- Structural steel erection is complete, and miscellaneous detailing remains. Concrete on the metal deck and associated topping slabs will continue for the next few weeks. Concrete block will start being placed to form the pilasters around the building. Exterior metal stud framing is underway. Please steer clear of heavy equipment or delivery trucks parked on city streets. Click here to see a map showing revisions to bus routes and street closures. Please observe all construction signs.

Office Annex (UW Operations; September 2017) -- UW Operations will dig in a new 2-inch water service supply line from the valve box to the building mechanical room. University Equipment Shop will excavate and backfill the trench. Construction should be complete by Friday, Sept. 8.

Michael B. Enzi STEM Facility (UW Operations) -- Building electric shutdown testing will be conducted Saturday, Sept. 9, in the morning hours to analyze and solve some issues that might occur in case of an emergency power failure. Please do not use any hoods or leave your computer up and running to prevent data loss. Also, during the shutdown, the external doors might be inaccessible until the testing has concluded.

Mick and Susie McMurry High Altitude Performance Center (Construction manager at risk GE Johnson Construction Wyoming LLC, Jackson; June 2018) -- Gates 6 and 8 will remain closed until the exterior site work and hardscapes are complete. All other pedestrian access routes are indicated by traffic-control barricades and signs. Site utility work, including the installation of steam lines and chilled water lines, is complete, with the exception of the final tie-in adjacent to the Visual Arts Building. Site flatwork is in progress, and barricades will be in place for new concrete pours. All pedestrian access will be rerouted when pours occur in the main pathways. Please use caution when near the project, and observe all construction signs.

The following projects are complete:

Annual Steam System Shutdown (UW Operations) -- The annual campus steam shutdown is complete.

Lot Maintenance (UW Operations, Structural Trades) -- The shops have completed summer lot maintenance. Striping of lots and curbs, and replacing signs as needed across the campus are complete.

Ross Hall (DT Services, Laramie; August 2017) -- Work to lift and stabilize the ADA ramp on the south side of the building is complete.
