University of Wyoming Calendar for Sept. 25

These are among the activities scheduled Sept. 25-Oct. 1 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Sept. 25, 3:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Henry Dick, a senior scientist at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. He will discuss “Remelting the Gondwanan Mantle -- Older and Younger” in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. A reception will follow in the Geological Museum. Free.

Tuesday, Sept. 26, 5 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music’s Faculty Recital Series presents the FZF Piano Trio in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. Free.

Tuesday, Sept. 26, 6:30 p.m. -- Cowgirl volleyball vs. Colorado State University, UniWyo Sports Complex. Ticket prices vary.

Tuesday, Sept. 26, 7 p.m. -- Planetarium show, “From Earth to the Universe.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204.

Tuesday, Sept. 26, 8 p.m. -- 7220 Entertainment will present a program about relationship issues for UW students, titled “Sex Signals,” in the Wyoming Union Ballroom. Free.

Thursday, Sept. 28, 4 p.m. -- The UW Department of Anthropology Fall Seminar Series presents Charles Stanish, director emeritus of the Cotsen Institute, UCLA. He will discuss “New Insights on the Nazca Lines of Ancient Peru” in the College of Agriculture Building auditorium. Free.

Thursday, Sept. 28, 6 p.m. -- UW’s Biodiversity Institute will recognize Ron Hartman and Fred and Stephanie Lindzey, the 2017 Contributions to Wyoming Biodiversity Award winners. A meet-and-greet session will take place at 5:30 p.m.; the ceremony will start at 6 p.m.; and a reception will follow. The events will be in the Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center. Free and open to the public.

Thursday, Sept. 28, 6 p.m. -- Students Supporting Veterans at UW will host Game Night in Pete’s Game Room, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Refreshments will be provided. Free.

Thursday, Sept. 28, 7 p.m. -- Studio WYO will host its first open mic night in the Wyoming Union Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Thursday, Sept. 28, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Wind Symphony presents “Fall Pops Concert” in the Performing Arts concert hall. Tickets cost $10 for the public; $7 for senior citizens; and $6 for students. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

Friday, Sept. 29, 4 p.m. -- Cowgirl soccer vs. Fresno State University, Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex. Ticket prices vary.

Friday, Sept. 29, 5 p.m. -- Cowboy and Cowgirl swimming and diving, Corbett Building. Free.

Friday, Sept. 29, 6 p.m. -- A reception for Hannah Hughes and Nicole Nicklas, student artists, will be in the Visual Arts Building, THIS and THAT galleries. Free.

Friday, Sept. 29, 6 p.m. -- Planetarium show, “Greek Mythology.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204.

Friday, Sept. 29, 6:30 p.m., 9 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. -- 7220 Entertainment will screen “Spider-Man: Homecoming” in the Wyoming Union Ballroom. Free.

Friday, Sept. 29, 7:30 p.m. -- The Dance Theatre of Harlem, the UW Department of Theatre and Dance’s 2017-18 Eminent Artists-in-Residence, will present a gala concert featuring a world-premiere work in the College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. Tickets cost $20 for the public; $17 for UW faculty/staff and senior citizens; and $10 for students. UW students are eligible to purchase two tickets for the price of one. Friday, Sept. 29, 8 p.m. -- Planetarium show, “Our Place in Time and Space.” A free STAR Observatory tour (weather dependent) follows at 9 p.m. Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204.

Saturday, Sept. 30, 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. -- Planetarium show, “Introduction to Astronomy.” Following the show, visitors will have the opportunity to build their own star finder. Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204.

Saturday, Sept. 30, 2 p.m. -- Cowboy football vs. Texas State University, War Memorial Stadium. Ticket prices vary.

Sunday, Oct. 1, 1 p.m. -- Cowgirl soccer vs. San Jose State University, Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex. Ticket prices vary.

Sunday, Oct. 1, 1 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music presents a guest artist alumni recital with Douglas Nagel, bass, and Timothy Schoessler, pianist. The recital will be in the Performing Arts recital hall. Free.
