UWs Western Thunder Seeks Donations for Band Day

The University of Wyoming’s Western Thunder Marching Band will hold its annual Band Day Saturday, Sept. 30, at 8 a.m., and is seeking donations as a way to recruit high school students.

The event invites high school bands to join Western Thunder for a day of marching instruction and a halftime performance during the football game against Texas State University at 2 p.m.

“This will be a banner year for us. We expect more than 600 high school students from Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska and Utah to join us on campus to rehearse and perform with Western Thunder,” says Bryan Raya, UW band director.

Performing with the Western Thunder Marching Band is a recruitment opportunity for the band and the entire UW campus, Raya says. He adds that the UW community can help in those recruiting efforts by donating items to be distributed among the high school band participants.

“Western Thunder invites anyone to participate by donating department items that could be distributed to students who come to the Western Thunder event, such as area magnets, lanyards, flash drives, water bottles, T-shirts and more,” Raya says. “The UW Western Thunder Marching Band plans to create a great impression on these students with the hopes of encouraging them to attend UW in the future.”

Donated items should be taken to the UW Department of Music in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts by Wednesday, Sept. 27, at 8 a.m.
