Campus Construction Update for Oct. 8

These are among the construction activities scheduled Oct. 8-14 at the University of Wyoming:

Campus Irrigation Systems (UW Operations, Plumbing and Landscaping Shops) -- Winterizing the campus irrigation system will continue through Oct. 31. Please use caution, as sidewalks and drive areas could become slick or slippery when wet with the cooler temperatures. We appreciate your patience during this time.

Campuswide Fall Roof Cleaning (UW Equipment Shop, Flynn Brighton Co., Big Horn Roofing, Laramie; Dec. 1) -- A man lift will be used at various locations on campus buildings with gutters and downspouts to clean leaves and debris before winter. Work will affect parking and pedestrian sidewalks at several locations for short periods of time. Please be cautious to stay clear of equipment and safety barricades, and watch for cleaning crews’ activities.

Campus Caulking and Exterior Building Envelope Projects (Wyoming Sealants, Saratoga; November 2017) -- Work is complete at the perimeter of Hoyt Hall, the south side of Ross Hall and the American Heritage Center drainage gutter. Work is ongoing at the Central Energy Plant. Please use caution around equipment and crews.

Red Buttes Environmental Biology Laboratory (UW Operations; September 2017) -- Work is ongoing for drainage upgrades and sidewalk replacement. Please use caution around equipment and crews.

Wyoming State Vet Lab Renovations (BSL-3) (General contractor Sampson Construction, Cheyenne; October 2017) -- Punch-list and commissioning activities are ongoing. Be cautious around heavy equipment.

Central Energy Plant (Arcon Inc., Laramie; October 2017) -- Construction fence is set up around the work area. The sidewalk on the west side of 19th Street is closed, and 19th Street will be blocked occasionally. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Arena-Auditorium Addition and Renovations (General contractor Sletten Construction of Wyoming Inc., Cody; October 2017) -- Parking on the east side of the building will be blocked for the project duration. Access to the A-A is closed. Be cautious of equipment, vehicles and construction crews in the area.

Engineering Education and Research Building (EERB) (Construction manager GE Johnson Construction Wyoming LLC, Casper; spring 2019) -- Structural steel erection is complete, and miscellaneous detailing remains. Concrete on the metal deck and associated topping slabs will continue for the next few weeks. Concrete block is being placed to form the pilasters around the building. Exterior and interior metal stud framing is underway. Mechanical rough-in will start over the next month. Please steer clear of heavy equipment or delivery trucks parked on city streets. Click here to see a map showing revisions to bus routes and street closures. Please observe all construction signs.

Mick and Susie McMurry High Altitude Performance Center (Construction manager at risk GE Johnson Construction Wyoming LLC, Jackson; June 2018) -- Exterior veneer is complete with the exception of the penthouse detailing. Drywall hanging and finishing are in progress. Painting and interior finishes will begin this month. Please use caution when near the project, and observe all construction signs.

AHC/Centennial Complex (Southeast Wyoming Insulation, Laramie; October 2017) -- Adding insulation to the main entrance east-side lobby soffit is tentatively planned Friday, Oct. 20. The work will reduce heat loss and protect fire sprinkler system piping from freezing during periods of below-zero weather. Spray foam lines will be routed from the outside elevator entrance and into the lobby by the sculpture court access door. Use caution around equipment, and be aware that a generator creating noise and exhaust will be staged near the elevator entry.

Pi Kappa Alpha House (Precision Demolition, Casper; October 2017) -- Demolition activities have begun. Please use caution around moving crews and vehicles.

Agriculture C and Engineering Addition Buildings (Summit Sealants, Montrose, Colo.; November 2017) -- Paint, caulk and minor repairs to the exteriors of Agriculture C and Engineering are ongoing. The Agriculture C west-end double-door entrance has scaffolding. Pedestrian traffic is routed through a scaffold passage tunnel to protect pedestrians from drop hazards from work occurring above. Please use caution around crews.

Cheyenne Family Medicine (Simon Contractors, Cheyenne; September 2017) -- Reconstruction of the north parking lot is ongoing. Work will require partial closure of the lot. Please use caution around work crews.

Campus Roof Replacements (Big Horn Roofing, Laramie; November 2017) -- Roof replacements will occur on Ross Hall over the Rendezvous Café; Arts and Sciences over the auditorium; Bureau of Mines over the south end; and the Central Energy Plant over the generator and south side. Expect noise, dust and intermittent shutdown of HVAC equipment to reflash and prevent odors from entering the occupied areas. Use caution around fenced barricades, the main staging area and hoist equipment.

Agronomy Farm (Equipment Operations, Laramie; September 2017) -- The drain line has been replaced. A guard rail will be installed around cleanouts. Please use caution around the area.

553 N. Ninth St. (UW Operations; Oct. 30) -- Sidewalk is being replaced on the west and south sides of the property. Sidewalks will be closed temporarily. Please use caution in the area.

Wildcatter Suites Filter Upgrades (Mullen’s Heating, Laramie) -- Filter upgrades will be conducted in the main air-handling unit that serves the Wildcatter Suites Oct. 16-17 and Oct. 19. The unit will be shut down for several hours during the day. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but this will help us in terms of energy efficiency and better air filtration in the building.

Earth Sciences Building Filter Upgrades (Mullen’s Heating, Laramie) -- Filter upgrades will be conducted in the main air-handling unit in the basement of Earth Sciences Oct. 31-Nov. 3. The unit will be shut down for several hours during the day. The exhaust fan will run, but we request that researchers not use the hoods because the supply air will be shut off and the make-up air will then have to come from corridors and/or exterior doors. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but this will help us in terms of energy efficiency and better air filtration in the building.

Geology Library Damper Upgrade (Mullen’s Heating, Laramie) -- Filter racks will be added to the outside air dampers in the basement of the Geology Library Nov. 8-10. Controls also will be added to the dampers. Please observe caution around the crews. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

IT Filter Upgrades (Mullen’s Heating, Laramie) -- Filter upgrades will be conducted in the main air-handling units in the penthouse of the Information Technology Building between Nov. 14-17. The units will be shut down for several hours during the day. We will work on one unit at a time so that when one is down, the other unit is still working. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but this will help us in terms of energy efficiency and better air filtration in the building.

Fraternity Row East (The Plumbing Co., Laramie; October 2017) -- Water line work will begin next week. Fraternity Row may be blocked off occasionally near the Beta House. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

The following project is complete:

Ross Hall (UW Operations, Plumbing Shop) -- Repairs to the southwest entrance vestibule are complete, following repairs to the sanitary sewer line.
