University of Wyoming Calendar for Oct. 16

These are among the activities scheduled Oct. 16-22 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Oct. 16, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. -- The UW Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies presents “Protestant Reformation: 500 Years and Counting,” a daylong conference on various aspects of the Protestant Reformation. Morning sessions will take place in the American Heritage Center, and afternoon sessions will be held in the Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center, Room 138. Monday, Oct. 16, 3:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Carol Finn, Geomagnetism Group leader at the U.S. Geological Survey in Denver, Colo. She will discuss “Geophysics of hydrothermal systems on selected Cascade volcanoes and Yellowstone National Park: links to volcanic hazards” in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. A reception will follow in the UW Geological Museum. Free.

Monday, Oct. 16, 6:30 p.m. -- The Movimiento Estuduantil Chicano de Aztlan (M.E.Ch.A), a UW student organization, will host an immigration and panel discussion followed by a know-your-rights workshop in the Wyoming Union. Refreshments will be provided. Free.

Tuesday, Oct. 17, 12:20 p.m. -- The UW Division of Kinesiology and Health’s Intellectual Community Seminar Series presents Nicole Sauls, a master’s student; Jayne Jenkins, a professor; and Michelle Clark, a master’s student, all in the Division of Kinesiology and Health. Each one will discuss various health topics in the Corbett Building, Room 137. Free.

Tuesday, Oct. 17, 4:15 p.m. -- The UW Center for Global Studies presents Stefan Kraemer, manager of the forestry area Edelweiler in the county of Freudenstadt, Germany. He will discuss “Comparing German and U.S. Forestry Management in the Black Forest and Medicine Bow National Forest: Different Approaches to the Pine Beetle” in the Classroom Building, Room 209. Free.

Tuesday, Oct. 17, 6 p.m. -- The UW Center for Global Studies presents Robert Ichord Jr., Atlantic Council Global Energy Center nonresident senior fellow. He will discuss “Changing Global Energy Markets, U.S. Foreign Policy and Wyoming’s Position as an Energy Leader” in the Berry Center auditorium. Refreshments will be available before the program. Ichord’s presentation will be followed by a panel discussion focusing on the current energy situation in the U.S. and Wyoming. Free.

Tuesday, Oct. 17, 7 p.m. -- Planetarium show, “This Month’s Sky.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Wednesday, Oct. 18, 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. -- The UW College of Health Sciences will host a Nursing and Health Professions Career Fair in the Wyoming Union Ballroom. Free.

Wednesday, Oct. 18, 5 p.m. -- The UW Chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success will present a video broadcast of Genevieve Thiers, an entrepreneur, speaker and opera singer. She will discuss “Taking the Stage: How One Entrepreneur Combined Arts and Business for Success” in the Classroom Building, Room 310. Free.

Thursday, Oct. 19, 1:10 p.m. -- The UW College of Engineering and Applied Science presents Muhammad Sahimi, a professor at the University of Southern California. He will discuss “Salt Transport, Evaporation, and Precipitation in Porous Media” in the Classroom Building, Room 222. Free.

Thursday, Oct. 19, 7 p.m. -- Studio WYO presents musical artists Sunnydale High and The Windermeres in the Wyoming Union Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Thursday, Oct. 19, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Symphony Orchestra presents “Opening Night” in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. Friday, Oct. 20, 4:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Anthropology Fall Seminar Series presents Minette Church, an associate professor at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. She will discuss “Roadside Public History and the Archaeology of the Mountain Route of the Santa Fe Trail” in the Anthropology Building, Room 150. Free.

Friday, Oct. 20, 6 p.m. -- A reception for Curtis Holcomb and Ezra Hansen, student artists, will be in the Visual Arts Building, THIS and THAT galleries. Free.

Friday, Oct. 20, 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. -- 7220 Entertainment will screen “Atomic Blonde” in the Wyoming Union Family Room. Free.

Friday, Oct. 20, 7:30 p.m. -- UW Presents and 7220 Entertainment will host Ethan Russell, a Grammy-nominated photographer known for photographing album covers for The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Who. He will share his experiences of recording rock ’n’ rock history in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium.
