University of Wyoming Calendar for Oct. 23

These are among the activities scheduled Oct. 23-29 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Oct. 23-Saturday, Oct. 28 -- Homecoming Week at UW. For a schedule of events, go to www.uwyo.edu/homecoming.

Monday, Oct. 23, 6 p.m. -- As part of Geography Awareness Week, Dan Wenk, superintendent of Yellowstone National Park, will discuss “How to protect Yellowstone in the face of dramatically increasing tourism.” His talk will be in the Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center auditorium. Free.

Tuesday, Oct. 24, 12:20 p.m. -- The UW Division of Kinesiology and Health’s Intellectual Community Seminar Series presents Mark Byra, a professor in the division. He will discuss “Submitting a Manuscript for Publication” in the Corbett Building, Room 137. Free.

Tuesday, Oct. 24, 7 p.m. -- Planetarium show, “From Earth to the Universe.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics/ and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Thursday, Oct. 26, 4:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Modern and Classical Languages Colloquium presents Phil Holt, emeritus professor in the department, and Eleni Panagiotarakou, a lecturer of political science and philosophy at Concordia University. They will discuss “Trump and Tyranny: A Greek Perspective” in the College of Business Building, Room 111. Free.

Thursday, Oct. 26, 5 p.m. -- Cowboy and Cowgirl swimming and diving vs. Colorado State University, Corbett Building. Free.

Thursday, Oct. 26, 6 p.m. -- Members of the Laramie community will have an opportunity to share their thoughts with Emily Monago, UW’s new chief diversity officer, at a meeting in Coe Library, Room 506. Light refreshments will be served. Free.

Thursday, Oct. 26, 6:30 p.m. -- Studio WYO will host an open mic night with Seth Leininger in the Wyoming Union Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Sign-ups are at 6:30 p.m., followed by the show at 7 p.m. Free.

Thursday, Oct. 26, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music’s Collegiate Chorale presents a “Spain Send-Off Concert” in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. The UW Collegiate Chorale is the only U.S. choir chosen to compete in the 49th Tolosa Choral Contest in Tolosa, Spain. Tickets cost $6 for students, $7 for seniors and $10 for the public. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

Friday, Oct. 27, 9-11 a.m. -- The UW School of Nursing will host an open house on the third floor of the Health Sciences Center. The event will include tours of the Clinical Simulation Center and light refreshments.

Friday, Oct. 27, 1:30-8:30 p.m. -- In honor of the 50th anniversary of the UW Department of Anthropology, an open house, tours, a talk and reception will be held in the Anthropology Building and the Berry Center auditorium. Call (307) 766-5136 for details. Free.

Friday, Oct. 27, 4 p.m. -- The UW College of Arts and Sciences’ annual Keith and Thyra Thomson Honors Convocation will recognize A&S students who have made various honor rolls. The program includes a keynote presentation by UW President Laurie Nichols, student presentations and a performance by the Wyoming Jazz Ensemble and the UW Chamber Orchestra. The convocation will take place in the A&S auditorium. Free.

Friday, Oct. 27, 8 p.m. -- Planetarium show, “The Spooky Side of Space.” A free STAR Observatory tour (weather dependent) follows at 9 p.m. Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics/ and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Friday, Oct. 27, 6:30 p.m. -- Cowgirl volleyball vs. Air Force, UniWyo Sports Complex. Ticket prices vary.

Saturday, Oct. 28, 9:30 a.m. -- The UW Homecoming parade begins at Ninth and Ivinson streets.

Saturday, Oct. 28, 11 a.m. -- Planetarium show, “The Spooky Side of Space.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics/ and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.” A dry ice experiment will follow after the show.

Saturday, Oct. 28, noon -- Cowboy and Cowgirl swimming and diving vs. Air Force, Corbett Building. Free.
