UW Homecoming Dance Oct. 25 at UW

The annual University of Wyoming Homecoming dance will feature a performance by Ryan Chrys and The Rough Cuts Wednesday, Oct. 25, at 9 p.m. in the Wyoming Union Ballroom. The event is free and open to all UW students.

The Cowboy Country Swing Club will give free dance lessons at 8 p.m. in the ballroom before the concert begins.

Ryan Chrys and The Rough Cuts, originally from Denver, Colo., began their music career in 2013, touring throughout the country. This year, the group was named the “Best Country Band” from the Westword Music Showcase Awards. In 2016, the band was awarded “Entertainer of the Year” by the Colorado Country Music Hall of Fame.

Besides Chrys on guitar and vocals, the band is composed of Bradley Weaver, lap steel and vocals; Susan Phelan, bass; and Michael Jochum, drums. When the band is not touring, members often perform with violinist Laura Quam in Colorado.

Chrys has performed with various bands, including Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, and The Fray.

Other band members also have performed as soloists or with others. Weaver released his own children’s album and also gives individual music lessons; Phelan is known for playing with various Colorado artists; and Jochum has toured with Jackson Browne and Korn.
