UW to Host Visualization Conference Oct. 25

A conference aimed at those who work with -- or would like to work with -- visualization and virtual reality will take place Wednesday through Friday, Oct. 25-27, at the University of Wyoming Conference Center.

The Higher Education Campus Alliance for Advanced Visualization’s (THE CAAV) second annual conference will include presentations on collaborative data visualization; strategic sessions on technology facility sustainability; and a variety of teaching and research applications that use visualization and virtual reality.

UW’s Shell 3-D Visualization Center and Mechdyne Corp. sponsor the conference.

Founded in 2015, THE CAAV is a volunteer-driven organization. Its purpose is to act as an information resource to worldwide higher education focusing on immersive visualization platforms, advanced video screen formats, advanced visualization software, and issues of sustainability and operation for high-tech visualization facilities.

THE CAAV conference, which begins Wednesday afternoon, will feature keynote speaker Maxine Brown, director of the Electronic Visualization Laboratory at the University of Illinois-Chicago. Her research interests include computer graphics, scientific visualization, collaboration, human-computer interfaces, high-performance computing and international network infrastructure.

Other conference presenters include faculty members from UW and other higher education institutions, software developers, information technology administrators, research scientists, and other visualization and virtual reality experts. They will discuss topics that range from using data visualization tools to art in the digital age to simulation-based learning for STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) education.

The conference will conclude at noon Friday.

To view the conference agenda or to register, go to www.uwyo.edu/ser/engagement/events/caav-conference.html. Registration costs $50. Members of THE CAAV can go directly to the conference webpage to register. Nonmembers should sign up for a free membership at https://thecaav.wordpress.com/membership-form/ and then register. Students can email emmajane.alexander@uwyo.edu to request free registration.
