Wyoming Jazz Ensemble, UW Chamber Orchestra Present Combined Concert Oct. 9
The Wyoming Jazz Ensemble, directed by Ben Markley, and the University of Wyoming Chamber Orchestra, directed by Beth Vanderborgh, team up to perform some of the most celebrated compositions of a 20th century composer in “The Music of Antônio Carlos Jobim.”
The concert is Monday, Oct. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall.
Tickets cost $10 for the public, $7 for senior citizens and $6 for students. Tickets are available by calling (307) 766-6666 or online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.
The concert will feature compositions from Jobim and arrangements by studio orchestra icons Claus Ogerman and Nelson Riddle. Additional ensembles will include UW Department of Music faculty John Fadial, Ryan Fourt and Katrina Zook.
Jobim was a Brazilian composer, pianist, songwriter, arranger and singer, and was known for originating the bossa nova style. One of his most popular pieces was “The Girl from Ipanema,” performed by singers and instrumentalists worldwide.
“We look forward to sharing this wonderful musical experience with the community,” Markley says.
