Campus Construction Update for Jan. 21

(Note: The weekly construction update highlights only projects with new developments. Comprehensive updates are distributed monthly. For the most recent comprehensive update, click here.)

These are among the construction activities scheduled Jan. 21-27 at the University of Wyoming:

Chilled Water System Shutdown (UW Operations) -- UW’s chilled water system will be shut down through late Wednesday, Jan. 24. This is necessary for the installation of a new chiller at the Central Energy Plant. Buildings connected to the loop are: the Wyoming Technology Business Center, High Bay Research Facility, Centennial Complex, Rochelle Athletics Center, College of Law Building, Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts, Information Technology Building, Coe Library, College of Business Building, Wyoming Union, Knight Hall, Student Health, College of Education Building, Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center, Agriculture C, Anthropology Building, Petroleum Engineering, Energy Innovation Center, Earth Sciences, Geology Building, Geological Survey, Physical Sciences Building, Biological Sciences Building, Health Sciences Building (including Pharmacy) and Classroom Building. For most of the buildings, there will be no issues, as there are no cooling loads during the winter. If there are questions or concerns with this outage, call Forrest Selmer, UW Operations, at 766-2077 or email fselmer@uwyo.edu.

Colder Weather Advisory (UW Operations) -- UW Operations asks building occupants to assist with ensuring buildings and facilities are safe and secure. Make sure all windows and doors are completely closed with windows latched at the end of each day, and report any doors or windows that you are unable to close and secure to the Service Desk (766-6225).

Snow Removal (UW Operations) -- Crews will remove snow as needed throughout the season. Watch for snow-removal equipment; be careful and safe during snow events. Call the Service Desk (766-6225) to report icy spots and problem areas.

Central Energy Plant (Arcon Inc., Laramie; May 2018) -- Construction fence is set up around the work area. The sidewalk on the west side of 19th Street may be closed, and 19th Street will be blocked occasionally. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Mick and Susie McMurry High Altitude Performance Center (Construction manager at risk GE Johnson Construction Wyoming LLC, Jackson; June 2018) -- Exterior veneer is complete, except for the new north entry additions and final paving/landscape improvements. Drywall hanging/finishing, painting, tile and all other interior finishes are in progress. Selective demolition for the Rochelle Athletics Center (RAC) is underway. Starting Jan. 8, all access to and egress from the RAC will be limited to the west weight room doors across from the Fieldhouse North. The weight room will be the only occupied area in the existing building until the phased turnover begins at the end of January. Traffic control, signs and barricades will be in place at the building interior and exterior during this process. Please use caution when near the project, and observe all construction signs.

Classroom Building (Stonehouse Construction) -- The Classroom Building will be operational and ready for classes Monday, Jan. 22; however, entrance to the building will be temporarily restricted while work continues to replace a failed water main on the east side of the building. Please see the map for access to the building. Expect heavy truck traffic both to the north and south of the construction area.

The following project is complete:

River Village Apartments (UW Operations, Equipment and Plumbing Shops; February 2018) -- Operations to replace existing heating system expansion tanks with new tanks and vents are complete.
