Safe Zone Trainings Scheduled in February at UW

Three sessions are planned in February for the University of Wyoming community to learn more about the LGBTQIA community.

Participants will learn about themselves and about education, collaboration and advocacy through LGBTQIA Safe Zone training sessions scheduled Feb. 7, Feb. 14 and Feb. 21. The three sessions will take place at noon in the Wyoming Union Big Horn Room. Trainings are free, and lunch is provided.

The Feb. 7 training will discuss LGB 101; the Feb. 14 training will focus on gender identity; and the Feb. 21 training will discuss visible allies.

“Safe Zone is a program geared toward creating an inclusive environment for the LGBTQIA community,” according to its website. “This program allows for introspection and thought on various aspects of the LGBTQIA community via a discussion about tolerance and acceptance.”

Safe Zone aims to educate individuals on issues related to the LGBTQIA community and provides the tools for participants to become allies. It offers a variety of training sessions that cover topics from inequalities in the everyday lives of LGBTQIA individuals to health care issues specific to members of the LGBTQIA communities.
