University of Wyoming Calendar for Feb. 12

These are among the activities scheduled Feb. 12-18 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Feb. 12, 3:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Jim Yeh, a professor of hydrology at the University of Arizona. He will discuss “Principle of Parsimony, Fake Science and Scales” in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. A reception will follow in the UW Geological Museum. Free.

Tuesday, Feb. 13, 7 p.m. -- Planetarium show, “Wyoming Stargazing.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Wednesday, Feb. 14, 3:30-4:30 p.m. -- An open meeting is scheduled for members of the UW community and the public to participate in the performance evaluation of UW President Laurie Nichols. The meeting will take place in the Wyoming Union Family Room.

Wednesday, Feb. 14, 6:30 p.m. -- Cowgirl basketball vs. San Diego State, Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary.

Wednesday, Feb. 14, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music presents the Helios Trio in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. Free.

Wednesday, Feb. 14, 8 p.m. -- 7220 Entertainment will host a poetry slam in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. The competition is open only to UW students, but the event is free and open to the public.

Thursday, Feb. 15, 7 p.m. -- Studio WYO presents musical artists Old Haunts and Pigasus in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Friday, Feb. 16, all day -- Cowboy and Cowgirl track and field teams host the Rocky Mountain Classic, War Memorial Fieldhouse. Free.

Friday, Feb. 16, 12:10 p.m. -- The Spring 2018 School of Energy Resources Faculty Speaker Series presents Pete Stahl, director of the Wyoming Reclamation and Restoration Center. His talk will be in the Energy Innovation Center’s Encana Auditorium. Lunch will be provided. Free.

Friday, Feb. 16, 5 p.m. -- 7220 Entertainment’s Films Committee will screen “Thor: Ragnarok” at 5 p.m. and 10 p.m., and “Justice League” at 7:30 p.m. in the Wyoming Union Family Room. Free.

Friday, Feb. 16, 6-8 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will host an opening reception to celebrate new exhibitions for the spring semester. Free.

Friday, Feb. 16, 7 p.m. -- Planetarium show, “Pluto Reclassified.” A free STAR Observatory tour (weather dependent) follows at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Friday, Feb. 16, 7:30 p.m. -- Pianist Daniela Liebman will perform in the Performing Arts concert hall, sponsored by UW Presents. Tickets cost $15 for the public; $12 for faculty, staff and senior citizens; and $10 for students. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

Saturday, Feb. 17, 11 a.m. -- Planetarium show, “Treasures of the Milky Way.” After the show, visitors will have an opportunity to bottle up their knowledge and take home their very own “galaxy in a jar.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”
