University of Wyoming Calendar for Feb. 19

These are among the activities scheduled Feb. 19-25 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Feb. 19, 3:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Jamie Farrell, an assistant research professor at the University of Utah. He will discuss “Seismic Imaging of the Yellowstone Upper Geyser Basin Using a Dense Seismic Array.” His talk will be in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. A reception will follow in the UW Geological Museum. Free.

Tuesday, Feb. 20, 12:20 p.m. -- The UW Division of Kinesiology and Health’s Intellectual Community Seminar Series presents Meghan Critchley, a master’s student in the division, and Jacob Layer, a doctoral student in the division. Critchley will discuss “The Effect of Mid-flight Rotation on Landing Mechanics,” and Layer will discuss “Isometric Assessment of Strength: Benefits and Limitations.” Both presentations will be in the Corbett Building, Room 137. Free.

Tuesday, Feb. 20, 7 p.m. -- Planetarium show, “Distant Worlds - Alien Life?” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Tuesday, Feb. 20, 7 p.m. -- Cowboy basketball vs. New Mexico, Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary.

Wednesday, Feb. 21, 4-6 p.m. -- A public art “idea swap” for members of the Laramie and UW communities to learn about a campus public art plan will take place in Coe Library, Room 506. Free.

Wednesday, Feb. 21, 6 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will host a panel discussion on the exhibition “Living Artifacts: Evolving Traditions and Cultural Perseverance.” Free.

Wednesday, Feb. 21, and Thursday, Feb. 22, 7 p.m. -- Outdoor adventure films will be screened during the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. Free.

Wednesday, Feb. 21, 7:30 p.m. -- A cappella group Tonic Sol-fa will perform in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. Tickets cost $19.50. Thursday, Feb. 22, 7 p.m. -- Studio WYO will host an open mic night in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Sign-ups are at 6:30 p.m. Free.

Thursday, Feb. 22, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony kick off UW’s Festival of Winds with “Wind Dancing” in the Performing Arts concert hall. Tickets cost $10 for the public; $7 for faculty, staff and senior citizens; and $6 for students. Friday, Feb. 23, noon -- The UW Center for Global Studies presents a brown bag presentation by Nicholas Crane, a UW assistant professor of geography. He will discuss “Politicizing Disappearance: Three Scenes from Central Mexico” in the Cheney International Center, Room 229. Free.

Friday, Feb. 23, 12:10 p.m. -- The School of Energy Resources Faculty Speaker Series presents Michael Urynowicz, director of the UW Center for Biogenic Natural Gas Research. His talk will be in the Energy Innovation Center’s Encana Auditorium. Lunch will be provided. Free.

Friday, Feb. 23, 5 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. -- 7220 Entertainment’s Films Committee will screen “Wonder” in the Wyoming Union Family Room. Free.

Friday, Feb. 23, 6 p.m. -- A reception for Molly Lovett and Whitney Batista, student artists, will be in the Visual Arts Building, THIS and THAT galleries. Free.
