Fossil Fish Topic of Fun Day at UW Geological Museum

Several activities for people of all ages are planned during Fossil Fish Festival Saturday, March 24, at the University of Wyoming Geological Museum.

Activities, free and open to the public, are from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Events include a scavenger hunt, a fish-drawing contest, virtual-reality tours of coral reefs, live 3-D printing and the chance to see real fish in a research lab. Lab tours are from noon-1:30 p.m.

UW graduate student Jimena Gocher will discuss current research on the evolution of fish, focusing on fish species from Africa. She will lead two tours of the Wagner Lab for participants to look at tanks with live fish.

“Join us to celebrate and learn about Wyoming’s fossil fish,” says Laura Vietti, UW Geological Museum and collections manager. “We will offer the opportunity to work and clean your own fossil fish piece, thanks to Tynsky’s Fossil Fish Inc.”

The UW Geological Museum, the Wyoming State Geological Survey and Coe Student Innovation Center are sponsors of the event.

For more information, call Vietti at (307) 314-2024 or email Lvietti@uwyo.edu.
