University of Wyoming Calendar for April 2

These are among the activities scheduled April 2-8 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, April 2, 2 p.m. -- The Department of Criminal Justice presents John Worrall, a professor of criminology at the University of Texas-Dallas. His talk, “How Do We Know Whether Police Officers Are Biased in Their Shooting Decisions?,” will be in the Classroom Building, Room 222. Free.

Monday, April 2, 3:10 p.m. -- The Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Paul Baker, a professor of earth and ocean sciences at Duke University. He will discuss “Drilling into the History of Amazon Climate and Life: Cenozoic Geologic Evolution of Tropical South America.” His talk will be in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. A reception will follow in the UW Geological Museum. Free.

Monday, April 2, 5 p.m. -- Vernon Wall, the co-founder of the Social Justice Training Institute, will present a lecture on “One Better World.” His talk will be in the Wyoming Union Family Room. Free.

Tuesday, April 3, 12:20 p.m. -- The Division of Kinesiology and Health Intellectual Community Seminar Series presents Richard Johnson, a professor in the School of Medicine at the University of Colorado-Denver. He will discuss “Camels, Hibernating Bears and Evolution: How They Can Give Insights into the Etiology of Obesity and Diabetes.” The lecture will be in the Corbett Building, Room 137. Free.

Tuesday, April 3, 7 p.m. -- UW Planetarium show, “This Month’s Sky.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Tuesday, April 3, 8:30 p.m. -- 7720 Entertainment’s Films Committee will screen “Blazing Saddles” in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. The film is rated R. Free.

Wednesday, April 4, 12:10 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will host “Lunchtime Conversations with Curators,” an informal gallery walk-through. April’s event will feature “Living Artifacts: Evolving Traditions and Cultural Perseverance.” Free.

Wednesday, April 4, 5:30 p.m. -- The 2018 Own It! Awards ceremony will take place in the Michael B. Enzi STEM Facility. The awards honor the work of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). To RSVP, email Emily Vercoe at evercoe@uwyo.edu. Free.

Thursday, April 5, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. -- The UW College of Health Sciences will host its annual Research Day in the Wyoming Union Family Room. The day will include two keynote presentations on Alzheimer’s disease research. UW students also will present their research projects. Free.

Thursday, April 5, 7 p.m. -- Author Samuel Western will lead a discussion about Wyoming’s future as part of the “New Wyoming Narratives” series. The interactive presentation will be in the Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center auditorium. A reception will follow. The Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources sponsors the event. Friday, April 6, 4:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Anthropology Spring Seminar Series presents Ken Kvamme, a professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Arkansas. He will discuss “Twenty Years of Geophysical Prospecting in Northern Plains Archaeological Sites” in the Anthropology Building, Room 150. Free.

Friday, April 6, 6 p.m. -- A reception for Bryan Lane, Naomi Peterson and Robert Wands, UW student artists, will be in the Visual Arts Building, THIS and THAT galleries. Free.

Friday, April 6, 7:30 p.m. -- Improv show “Scared Scriptless,” starring comedians Colin Mocherie and Brad Sherwood, will take place in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium.
