UW College of Health Sciences Students to Present Research April 5

Four students from disciplines throughout the University of Wyoming’s College of Health Sciences will present their research projects during the college’s annual Research Day Thursday, April 5.

The program in the Wyoming Union Family Room begins at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at 3:30 p.m.

Student presenters each give an oral presentation along with visual highlights of their research from the 2017-18 academic year. They work closely with faculty members from their college divisions to prepare outstanding research presentations, using their projects to reach their academic goals.

“I am glad to see that both graduate and undergraduate students from various disciplines of health sciences submitted strong proposals to compete for this year’s Student Research Presentation Award,” says Qin Zhu, associate professor in the Division of Kinesiology and Health who chairs the college’s research committee. “The committee evaluated each proposal seriously on its novelty, quality and impact to health, and made a tough decision to select the best of the best to represent the quality research conducted by our students. I hope you can join me to attend their presentations and learn about their exciting findings on various topics of human health on Research Day.”

This year’s student presenters, listed by the time of their presentations, their topics and hometowns are:

8:50-9:10 a.m. -- “Novel Strategy to Treat Noxious Pain,” Menglan Wang, of Laramie, School of Pharmacy.

9:10-9:30 a.m. -- “An Analysis of Safety Messages for the Prevention of Sexual Assault on a University Campus,” Liana Moskowitz, of Jackson, Division of Social Work.

9:30-9:50 a.m. -- “Cross-shift Body Mass Change and Health Outcomes Related to CKDu in Guatemalan Sugarcane Workers,” Hillary Yoder, of Lawrence, Kan., Division of Kinesiology and Health.

9:50-10:10 a.m. -- “Benefits of ECHO: Decreasing Isolation for Wyoming Speech-Language Pathologists,” Clarissa Petres, of Rapid City, S.D., Division of Communication Disorders.

Students and faculty who have contributed research to the college’s annual Research Day will be recognized at the close of the program starting at 2:50 p.m.
