The University of Wyoming Art Museum will host a two-day Smartphone Photography Workshop inspired by the exhibition “Warhol in Wyoming: The Andy Warhol Photographic Legacy Gift.”

The workshop will take place Saturday, April 28, and Saturday, May 5, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

The workshop costs $50 per person and is limited to 15 participants, ages 16 and up. Registration will be accepted through Friday, April 20. To sign up, go to https://tinyurl.com/uwyoartmus-photoworkshop.

Bailey Russel, photography instructor, and Rani Robison, foundations and digital media instructor, both from the UW Department of Art and Art History, will lead the workshop.

Russel and Robison will cover basic composition, exposure techniques and artistic vision, as well as creative approaches to framing, apps and more. They will give participants a unique studio assignment during the week between the two workshops to practice.

One photo will be printed in a large format for each participant and will be shown in a mini-exhibition at the Art Museum. A reception for friends and family is planned Saturday, May 5, from noon-1 p.m.

“Having Andy Warhol’s work on view is a great opportunity to offer a fun and interactive workshop for an adult audience at the Art Museum -- one that we don’t often focus on,” says Katie Christensen, curator of education and statewide engagement. “Warhol’s use of technology was cutting-edge for his time. Today, your smartphone also is underutilized, cutting-edge technology. After this workshop, you will be the envy of your Instagram feed!”

For more information, call the Art Museum at (307) 766-6622, visit the website at www.uwyo.edu/artmuseum, or follow the museum on Facebook and Instagram.

Through its “Museum as Classroom” approach, the UW Art Museum places art at the center of learning for all ages. Located in the Centennial Complex at 2111 Willett Drive in Laramie, the museum is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday hours are extended to 7 p.m. February through April and September through November. Admission is free.
