Campus Construction Update for May 20

(Note: The weekly construction update highlights only projects with new developments. Comprehensive updates are distributed monthly. For the most recent comprehensive update, click here.)

These are among the construction activities scheduled May 20-26 at the University of Wyoming:

Core Campus Steam Shutdown (UW Operations) -- The annual campus steam shutdown will begin at noon Monday, July 16, and will continue through Aug. 20. Most campus buildings between 22nd and Ninth streets, and Ivinson and Lewis streets will not have hot water or steam during the shutdown. A portable boiler will be placed near the Washakie Dining Hall during the week of July 9 and remain on site until Aug. 20.

Campus Irrigation (UW Operations) -- Crews will begin turning on irrigation systems throughout campus. Use caution, as some sidewalks could become slick. Please excuse the inconvenience of detours walking around campus.

Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center (Mullen’s Heating, Laramie; UW Operations PM Shop) -- The contractor will start upgrading the air filtration system in four air-handling units (AHU) May 22-24. The respective AHU will remain shut down until the upgrades are completed. Technicians also will perform coil cleaning while the AHU is shut down. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Engineering Education and Research Building (EERB) (Construction manager GE Johnson Construction Wyoming LLC, Casper; spring 2019) -- Installation of the stone veneer; exterior and interior metal stud framing, drywall and paint; mechanical/electrical/plumbing rough-ins, elevator commissioning, utility extensions; and roofing are all underway. Eleventh Street will be closed to traffic in both directions for the duration of the project. The ADA sidewalk ramp on the southeast corner of the Michael B. Enzi STEM Facility will be closed May 14-28 for utility tie-ins. ADA access is still available on the southwest ramp, and no exterior building doors will be blocked. Please steer clear of heavy equipment, overhead conveying and delivery trucks parked on city streets. Please observe all construction signs.

Mick and Susie McMurry High Altitude Performance Center (Construction manager at risk GE Johnson Construction Wyoming LLC, Jackson; June 2018) -- Within the existing facility, metal stud framing, drywall, mechanical, electrical and plumbing rough-ins are underway. All access to and egress from the Rochelle Athletics Center will be limited to the south entry doors. Construction of the north entry is underway. Traffic control, signs and barricades will be in place at the building interior and exterior during this process. Please use caution when near the project, and observe all construction signs.

Engineering Building (UW Operations, May 2018) -- The computer lab in Engineering Rooms 6028/6021A is currently closed for expansion and remodeling. Please be cautious around crews and equipment in this area, and observe all construction signs.

White Hall (UW Structural Trades, June 2018) -- Patching and painting will be done on the exterior soffit areas on northeast and southeast soffit locations. A new insulated door will be added in the south stairwell. Please use caution around work activities, and observe all construction signs.

Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts (Big Horn Roofing, Laramie; June 2018) -- Work is ongoing to replace roofs over the west end of the building, weather permitting. Please use caution near this area, and be aware of equipment and materials adjacent to the project site.

High Bay Research Facility (Encore Electric) -- Placement of a third backup generator using a crane will occur Wednesday, May 23. This will block direct access to the north side of the High Bay Research Facility, the south side of the Regulated Materials Management Center and the Wyoming Technology Business Center via Gibbon Street for the majority of the day. Use caution, and avoid closed areas due to the use of a crane to lift and place heavy equipment.

The following projects are complete:

Hoyt Hall (UW Operations) -- The power shutdown to Hoyt Hall for transformer replacement is complete.

Central Energy Plant (CEP) Steam and Chilled Water Outages (Mechanical Systems Inc., Cheyenne) -- The CEP steam and chilled water outages are complete.

White, Orr and Downey Halls (Cowboy Glass, May 2018) -- Windows have been replaced in the lobbies, and the work is complete.

Beta House, North Exterior (UW Operations) -- Work is complete for the replacement of the loading dock and stairs.

Old Main (UW Operations, May 2018) -- Renovations have been completed in Room 113.

13th and Lewis Streets Water Main Repairs (City of Laramie water department) -- The city of Laramie water department has completed the water main repair. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
