RSO Award Winners Announced at UW

University of Wyoming student groups were recently recognized for their efforts during the 16th annual Recognized Student Organization (RSO) Awards of Excellence banquet.

The 250-plus campus organizations provide outlets for students to become involved, make friends and network. They host hundreds of events on and off campus; attend conferences that enhance their professional development; and participate in service activities that impact the university and local community.

The annual RSO Awards of Excellence banquet recognizes these groups and also student leaders for their accomplishments from the past year.

The Campus Activities Center (CAC) presented awards in several categories. For the first time, an RSO Officer of the Year Award was presented to one of UW’s top student leaders.

The winners of the awards are:

-- Best RSO Poster Award: Spectrum for its Pink Prom poster.

-- Outstanding Adviser Award: Debra Littlesun, from the Native student group Keepers of the Fire, for her guidance as a leader.

-- RSO Teamwork Award: Sustainability Club for its work with ACRES Student Farm, The Wildlife Society and the Environment and Natural Resources Student Club.

-- Best New RSO Award: Model United Nations at UW for success in creating a new RSO.

-- RSO Community Service Award: UW Nordic ski club for its community service, such as the annual “Trash 2 Treasure” program, leaf raking initiative and the Nick and Maggi Murdock Ski Clinic.

-- RSO Officer of the Year Award: Student leaders Colleen Floyd, president of the Political Science Club, for her work in reinstating the organization; and Delaney Dent, for her efforts in making Phi Sigma Rho a chapter.

-- Sara Axelson Outstanding RSO Award: Alpha Kappa Psi-Beta Nu for its contribution and service to the students at UW; commitment toward the organization’s constitution and purpose; character and citizenship; and support to fellow RSOs, community service and visibility on campus.
