Nichole Taylor, a University of Wyoming Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program graduate-elect from Gillette, has been selected to deliver the Nursing Convocation 2018 message this year. The ceremony is scheduled Friday, May 11, from 2-4 p.m. in the College of Arts and Sciences auditorium.

Taylor graduates from the DNP Program this year as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.

Taylor says her speech will focus on creating positive change while enduring the current challenges of health care.

“What we aspire to do (as nurses in the current health care climate) will require resilience to keep our passion to promote change for our patients and overall health care,” she says.

Taylor was selected to speak “because of her passion for nursing, especially psychiatric mental health nursing, and her willingness to advocate for her clients,” says Mary Burman, dean of UW’s Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing.

“In addition, Nichole was chosen for this honor due to her interest and leadership in increasing access to mental health care in rural and underserved communities,” says Ann Marie Hart, DNP Program director.

Taylor was named one of two Jonas Nurse Leader Scholars from UW during the course of her DNP program. The honor included participation in an online leadership series where she connected with other scholars across the country, culminating in an in-person national meeting in Washington, D.C., last fall. There, she gained exposure to national nursing leaders from across the country and an opportunity to talk with legislators.
