Campus Construction Update for June 24

Note: The weekly construction update highlights only projects with new developments. Comprehensive updates are distributed monthly. For the most recent comprehensive update, click here.)

These are among the construction activities scheduled June 24-30 at the University of Wyoming:

Core Campus Steam Shutdown (UW Operations) -- The annual campus steam shutdown will begin approximately at 6 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, and will continue through Aug. 20. Most campus buildings between 22nd and Ninth streets, and Ivinson and Lewis streets will not have hot water or steam during the shutdown. A portable boiler located north of Washakie Dining Hall will remain on-site until Aug. 20.

Campus Irrigation (UW Operations) -- Crews will begin turning on irrigation systems throughout campus. Use caution, as some sidewalks could become slick. Please excuse the inconvenience of detours walking around campus.

Old Main (Marshall Contracting; June 2018) -- Renovations are underway to the President’s Suite, converting two bathroom sections into one, as well as painting, new carpet and renovations to the boardroom. Please be aware of work crews in the building.

Physical Sciences Building (MSI; May 29-Aug. 20) -- The area between the Physical Sciences and Health Sciences buildings will be closed for storm sewer work. Please be cautious around equipment and crews. See attached map.

Classroom Building, Biological and Physical Sciences Buildings (MSI Inc.) -- The sidewalk east of the Classroom Building between Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences will be closed for a month due to the storm sewer renovations. See attached map.

Knight Hall (Big Huhnks Excavation; May 22-July 4) -- Replacement of sod after the sewer repair will begin. Some concrete replacement also may occur. Please be cautious around these crews.

Lot Maintenance (UW Operations, Structural Trades) -- Weather permitting, summer lot maintenance work will run through August. UW shops will stripe lots and curbs, and replace signs as needed across campus. Sections of the lots may be barricaded during the day as needed for safety. Striping work will be finished for the Centennial Complex lot the week of June 23 and will begin in the Cooper House lot. There will be some random striping in the Wyoming Union lot. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Washakie Temporary Boiler (UW Operations; summer 2018) -- Crews will be installing barricades and fencing for the temporary boiler, which is located in the southwest corner of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. The boiler will remain in place until the campus steam shutdown is complete for summer. Please use caution around the equipment in this area.

Physical Sciences Building Third Floor, WWAMI Cadaver Lab (Arcon Inc., Laramie; summer 2018) -- The project phase is nearing completion with final installation of furnishings, fixtures and equipment underway. Touch-up work, including painting, will be ongoing for the next few weeks.

Wyoming Union Third Floor, Veterans Services Center (Shepard Construction; summer 2018) -- Demolition and reconstruction will continue on the third floor through July. Painting is ongoing through June. The south end of the west wing will be impacted primarily by the noise for the next few weeks. Exterior project staging is on the southwest side of the Wyoming Union. Please be cautious around crews and equipment in this area, and observe all construction signs.

Physical Sciences Building (Colorado Hazard Control, Colo.) -- The abatement crews will be working in Lab 134 to abate and remove four research hoods June 22-23. The room will be contained to create negative pressure, and no one will be permitted to use the lab. Please use caution around the work area.

Science Initiative Building (Site clearing and demolition contractor Stonehouse Inc., Laramie; summer/fall 2018) -- Franchise utility disconnects and relocations will start the week of June 25. Asbestos abatement in multiple buildings will start the week of June 25. The parking lot at 10th and Lewis streets will be permanently closed Saturday, June 30. Demolition activities will start in July. Please observe all construction signs, site fencing, overhead hazards and construction traffic.

Education Lab School (UW Operations) -- Painting will begin in June to start renovating the Lab School. Use caution around movers and painters when renovations begin. Construction on Room 120 to create a new wall began June 11. Asbestos abatement will start in different areas June 25 and continue throughout the summer. Please be aware of the work going on, and use caution in these areas.

Engineering Building (UW Operations, Electrical Shop) -- Transformer replacements for old Engineering will begin Friday, June 29, from 6 a.m.-5 p.m. Contact has been made with all parties that will be affected by the outage. Heavy equipment will be assisting with the replacement in the drive between Engineering and Earth Science (north of Geology, south of Energy Resource Center). Please be cautious in this area.

1316 E. Lewis St. (UW Operations) -- Crews will be repairing damaged sidewalk underdrain. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center (UW Operations) -- The plumbing shop welding crew will be installing new control valves and piping to the rooftop unit No. 4 for a few weeks beginning June 22. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in this area.

Arena-Auditorium Steam Tunnel (UW Operations) -- Welding and plumbing crews will begin demolition and installation of new steel piping in the Arena-Auditorium tunnel west to the main tunnel starting June 27. Work will last several weeks. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in this area.

The following projects are complete:

Ross Hall (UW Operations, Electrical Shop) -- Transformer replacements for Ross Hall are complete.

Hoyt Hall West Parking (Big Huhnks Excavation; June 4-25) -- The parking lot west of Hoyt Hall has reopened.
