Campus Construction Update for July 15

(Note: The weekly construction update highlights only projects with new developments. Comprehensive updates are distributed monthly. For the most recent comprehensive update, click here.)

These are among the construction activities scheduled July 15-21 at the University of Wyoming:

Campus Steam Shutdown (UW Operations) -- The annual campus steam shutdown will begin next Monday, July 16, and will continue through Aug. 20. Most campus buildings between 22nd and Ninth streets, and Ivinson and Lewis streets will not have hot water or steam during the shutdown. A portable boiler located north of Washakie Dining Hall will remain on-site until Aug. 20.

Central Energy Plant (CEP) (Arcon Inc., Laramie; July 2018) -- Construction on a shelter to cover the condensate tank at the CEP will commence July 16. Fence is set up around the work area. The sidewalk on the west side of 19th Street may be closed; the street will be blocked occasionally. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Mick and Susie McMurry High Altitude Performance Center (Construction manager at risk GE Johnson Construction Wyoming LLC, Jackson; July 2018) -- Within the existing facility, interior finishes are wrapping up. All access to and egress from the Rochelle Athletics Center will be limited to the south entry doors. Construction of the north entry is underway. Traffic control, signs and barricades will be in place at the building interior and exterior during this process. Please use caution when near the project, and observe all construction signs.

Physical Sciences Building (MSI; May 29-Aug. 20) -- The area between the Physical Sciences and Health Sciences buildings will be closed for storm sewer work. Please be cautious around equipment and crews. See attached map.

Classroom Building, Biological and Physical Sciences Buildings (MSI) -- The sidewalk east of the Classroom Building between Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences will be closed for a month due to the storm sewer renovations. See attached map.

American Heritage Center (Simon Construction; August 2018) -- The parking lot will be closed for repairs starting July 9-20. Please use the Visual Arts Building parking lot. Visitor parking also will be located in the Visual Arts Building parking lot.

Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts (Knife River; August 2018) -- The south parking lot will be closed July 9-27. Please use the 17th Street entrance and exit.

Crane Parking Lot (Knife River; August 2018) -- The east parking lot will be closed July 9-27. Please use the 17th Street entrance and exit.

Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts and the College of Law (Big Huhnks and The Plumbing Co.) -- The road between the parking lots of the College of Law and the east side of Fine Arts will be closed for underground utility work the weeks of July 9 and July 16. Please be cautious in this area. See attached map.

Energy Innovation Center (EIC), Earth Sciences Building (Big Huhnks and The Plumbing Co.) -- The sidewalk area around the loading dock of EIC, Earth Sciences and half of the street will be closed for underground utility work during the week of July 16. Please use caution in these areas. See attached map.

Health Sciences Building, South Wing Fourth Floor, WWAMI Classroom (Arcon Inc., Laramie; summer 2018) -- Work on this phase of the project is scheduled to begin July 16, primarily in Rooms 457, 459 and 460 in the south wing of the fourth floor. Demolition work is scheduled to occur through early August, with temporary impacts to additional spaces on the third and fourth floors.

University Office Annex (Simon Construction; August 2018) -- The parking lot will be closed starting July 9-20. Please use street parking.

Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center Pool and Spa (UW Operations) -- Crews will make repairs to the mechanical room and in the pool area. The pool and spa will be drained and closed from July 16-Aug. 24. Please use caution in the pool area.

Arena-Auditorium Steam Tunnel (UW Operations) -- The welding and plumbing crews began demolition and installation of new steel piping in the Arena-Auditorium tunnel west to the main tunnel June 27. Work will last several weeks. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in this area.

Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center (UW Operations) -- The plumbing shop welding crew will install new control valves and piping to the rooftop unit No. 4 for a few weeks. Work began June 22. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in this area.

Health Sciences Building (Big Horn Roofing) -- Crews will be reroofing sections of the roof. Please use caution around crews and equipment.

Old Main (UW Operations; August 2018) -- The remodel of Suite 318 of Old Main is expected to begin July 17. Task items include wall removal and repair, painting, carpeting, electrical routing, moving and cleaning. The work will continue until Aug. 29. The contractor will establish a HEPA-equipped negative pressure enclosure at the entrance of the suite in an effort to mitigate dust and odor dispersion to other locations of Old Main during construction. There will be heavy foot traffic along the main stairwell from ground level to the third floor. A Conex (storage container) for furniture storage will be staged at the northeast corner of the building, near the dumpsters for the facility. Please use caution near crews and equipment.

The following projects are complete:

Sigma Phi Epsilon (Big Horn Roofing; July 2018) -- The low slope roof on the south side has been reroofed.

1316 E. Lewis St. (UW Operations) -- Repairs to the damaged sidewalk and underdrain have been completed.
