UW Alumni Association Plans Membership Appreciation Day Sept. 15

A day of fun, football and friendship this fall is planned by the University of Wyoming Alumni Association (UWAA) to show appreciation to its members.

Membership Appreciation Day will feature a buffet lunch leading up to the Wyoming Cowboy football game against the Wofford (Spartanburg, S.C.) Terriers Saturday, Sept. 15. The event will be at the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center, located at 222 S. 22nd St., from 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m.

The Pokes pregame pep rally begins at 11:45 a.m. and will feature UW head football Coach Craig Bohl, Western Thunder Marching Band and cheer team, and the “Cowboy Walk.” The sponsor for Membership Appreciation Day is First Interstate Bank.

“We are excited to welcome our UWAA members back to Laramie for this Cowboy football weekend,” says UWAA Executive Director Keener Fry. “For more than 100 years, our members have made it possible for the UWAA to provide our alumni and students a pathway to spread the legacy, spirit and pride of UW worldwide. We are pleased to honor our members and express our gratitude to them during Membership Appreciation Day.”

UWAA board member Jane France (B.A. ’08, J.D. ’11) describes why the UWAA is important to her.

“I am proud to be a lifetime member of the University of Wyoming Alumni Association because it keeps me connected to the university. I like to know what is happening on campus and in my community relevant to UW, and the UWAA keeps me up to date,” she says. “It also helps me, as a board member, promote the institution and connect with all friends of the university, whether they’re prospective students, current students, young alumni or folks celebrating their 50-year reunion at Homecoming.”

Board President Jane Farrell (B.A. ’77) adds she is hoping the event draws a large contingent of UW graduates.

“This is our way to say ‘thank you’ for all you are making possible: helping new graduates find jobs through our ‘Cowboy 2 Cowboy’ program; providing opportunities to stay connected across the country to UW through alumni networks and events; and supporting students with scholarships,” she says. “Take some time to stroll across campus -- you may go down memory lane, but I guarantee you will be amazed at the many new and exciting changes. Stop by so we can welcome you back.”

The Membership Appreciation Day buffet is free to UWAA members and one guest. A charge of $20 for each additional guest and a charge of $8 for children 11 and under will be assessed. Lifetime UWAA members will receive one complimentary drink. Available will be a cash bar, NCAA football on the big screens and the opportunity to build school spirit throughout the day. Attendees also will receive a UW pride gift.

UWAA members interested in attending are urged to RSVP by Thursday, Sept. 6. Register at http://wyoalumni.uwyo.edu/member18.
