Campus Construction Update for Aug. 5

These are among the construction activities scheduled Aug. 5-11 at the University of Wyoming:

Campus Steam Shutdown (UW Operations) -- The annual campus steam shutdown began Monday, July 16, and will continue through Aug. 20. Most campus buildings between 22nd and Ninth streets, and Ivinson and Lewis streets will not have hot water or steam during the shutdown. A portable boiler located north of Washakie Dining Hall will remain on-site until Aug. 20.

Central Energy Plant (CEP) (Arcon Inc., Laramie; August 2018) -- Construction on a shelter to cover the condensate tank at the CEP began Aug. 1. Construction fence is set up around the work area. The sidewalk on the west side of 19th Street may be closed; the street will be blocked occasionally. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Wildcatter Re-carpeting (Commercial Flooring) -- The Wildcatter carpet is being replaced. A dumpster is located in the stadium parking lot, and one elevator at a time will be out of public use. Please use caution, and be aware of active renovation zones.

Old Main (UW Operations; August 2018) -- Remodeling of Suite 318 of Old Main is underway. Task items include wall removal and repair, painting, carpeting, electrical routing, moving and cleaning. The work will continue until Aug. 29. The contractor will establish a HEPA-equipped negative pressure enclosure at the entrance of the suite in an effort to mitigate dust and odor dispersion to other locations of Old Main during construction. There will be heavy foot traffic along the main stairwell from ground level to the third floor. A Conex (storage container) for furniture storage will be staged at the northeast corner of the building, near the dumpsters for the facility. Please use caution near crews and equipment.

Physical Sciences Building (MSI; May 29-Aug. 20) -- The storm sewer work in the area between the Physical and Health Science buildings is nearing completion. It is now open to foot traffic but still closed to vehicle traffic at this time. See attached map.

Classroom Building, Biological and Physical Sciences Buildings (MSI) -- The sidewalk east of the Classroom Building between Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences is now open to foot traffic but will still be closed to vehicles for a couple more weeks due to some finishing work on the storm sewer renovations. See attached map.

University Office Annex -- Carpet will be replaced in about 700-square-foot sections starting Aug. 20.

Anthropology Building (Simon Contractors, August 2018) -- Simon Construction will have the parking lot closed Aug. 1-10 for crack sealing, asphalt coating and restriping.

Arena Auditorium (A-A) (The Plumbing Co. and Big Huhnks, August 2018) -- The northeast sidewalk area will be closed for concrete and hydrant repairs. Water to the A-A could be temporarily disrupted.

Central Energy Plant (CEP) (The Plumbing Co., July-August 2018) -- Welding crews will be on 19th Street by the CEP working on piping for the steam shutdown. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Science Initiative Building (Site clearing and demolition contractor Stonehouse Inc., Laramie; summer/fall 2018) -- Franchise utility disconnects are complete. Black Hills Energy will re-route the gas main to the east side of the site the week of Aug. 6. Tree removal and water service demolition will start the week of Aug. 6. There will be multiple street section closures Aug. 6-10; Ninth and 10th streets between Lewis and Bradley will be closed, Lewis and Bradley streets between Ninth and 10th streets also will be closed that entire week. Please plan your travel routes accordingly and follow traffic control instructions. Asbestos abatement in multiple buildings is in progress. The parking lot at 10th and Lewis streets is permanently closed. Please do not park in any of the residential areas or parking lots. Please observe all construction signs, site fencing, overhead hazards and construction traffic.

Engineering Education and Research Building (EERB) (Construction manager GE Johnson Construction Wyoming LLC, Casper; spring 2019) -- Installation of the stone veneer; exterior and interior metal stud framing, drywall and paint; mechanical/electrical/plumbing rough-ins; elevator commissioning; and roofing are all underway. Site utilities, landscape walls and rough grading are all in progress. Eleventh Street will be closed to traffic in both directions for the duration of the project. The ADA sidewalk ramp on the southeast corner of the Michael B. Enzi STEM Facility will be closed through Aug. 10 for utility tie-ins. ADA access is still available on the southwest ramp, and no exterior building doors will be blocked. Please steer clear of heavy equipment, overhead conveying and delivery trucks parked on city streets. Please observe all construction signs.

Education Lab School (UW Operations) -- Painting began in June to start renovating the Lab School. Asbestos abatement in different areas began June 25 and will continue throughout the summer. Please be aware of the ongoing work, and use caution in these areas.

McWhinnie Hall (UW Operations) -- Moving and construction is ongoing in Room 100 and attached offices to the east. Abatement will start Aug. 9. Please use caution in this area.

Knight Hall (UW Operations; August 2018) -- Work has begun at the southwest entrance to reconstruct the flower planters and repair the exterior foyer ceiling plaster and deck area. Please be cautious around crews and equipment in this area, and observe all construction signs.

Engineering (UW Electricians; August 2018) -- Recommissioning of L30 No. 2 has begun. Work will continue through mid-August. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Agriculture and Engineering Buildings (Summit Sealants, Montrose, Colo.; August 2018) -- Painting, caulking and minor repairs to the exteriors of Agriculture and Engineering will be ongoing through the summer, as weather permits.

University Office Annex (Simon Construction; August 2018) -- The parking lot is open, Crews will still be doing small concrete repairs. Please use caution around crews.

High Altitude Performance Center (Wyoming Signs; August 2018) -- There will be monument sign construction by the south entrance. Please use caution around crews and equipment.

West Side of 22nd Street from the Gateway Center and North to Willett Drive (Triple A Building Services; August 2018) -- Landscaping will be updated. Please use caution around work crews and equipment.

Physical Sciences Building (UW Operations) -- Welding crews will be re-piping and installing new control valves for the heat system. This will take place in the basement mechanical room starting July 6 for approximately a month and a half. Please use caution around the work crew.

Corbett Pool (UW Operations) -- Crews will be working on the biannual maintenance to the pool area. The pool will be drained and closed July 18-Aug. 24. Please use caution in the pool area.

Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center Pool and Spa (UW Operations) -- Crews will be making repairs to the mechanical room and in the pool area. The pool and spa will be drained and closed from July 16-Aug. 24. Please use caution in the pool area.

Information Technology Building (Arcon Inc.; August 2018) -- Exterior work is ongoing for a new chiller installation on the south side of the IT Building. Ivinson Street, by the building, may be temporarily blocked during normal business hours. Additionally, interior work continues on the southeast side of the building. Work crews will be transporting large equipment. Use caution around work crews.

Steam Distribution System (CHC; Aug 2018) -- Crews will be abating pipe fittings throughout the tunnel system in northwest campus. Be cautious of open vaults and manholes allowing for worker ventilation.

Irrigation Expansion (Triple A; August-December 2018) -- Crews will be boring under public roadways and trenching throughout campus. Some roadways will be closed during construction. Expect traffic delays and detours.

Wyoming Hall, McWhinne, Education and Education Annex parking lots (Simon Contractors, August 2018) -- Simon Construction will have the parking lot closed Aug. 6-15 for crack sealing, asphalt coating and restriping.

Health Sciences/Pharmacy Building (Big Horn Roofing) -- Crews will be reroofing sections of the roof. Please use caution around crews and equipment.

Health Sciences Building (Laramie Heating and Sheet Metal, Laramie; August 2018) -- The contractor is replacing two dampers and actuators in the corridor. There will be some noise and dust. Please use caution around crews.

Health Sciences Building-South Wing Fourth Floor, WWAMI Classroom (Arcon Inc., Laramie; fall 2018) -- Demolition and reconstruction will continue in the south wing of the fourth floor through November. Demolition work is scheduled to occur through early August, with temporary impacts to additional spaces on the third and fourth floors. Please be cautious around crews and equipment in this area, and observe all construction signs.

Wyoming Union Third Floor, Veterans Services Center (Shepard Construction; summer 2018) -- Demolition and reconstruction will continue on the third floor through August. Painting is ongoing through mid-August. The south end of the west wing will be impacted by the noise for the next few weeks. Exterior project staging is on the southwest side of the Wyoming Union. Please be cautious around crews and equipment in this area, and observe all construction signs.

Physical Sciences Building Third Floor, WWAMI Cadaver Lab (Arcon Inc., Laramie; summer 2018) -- The project is in completion stage and only punch list and warranty work are ongoing.

The following projects are complete:

Education Annex (July 10-17) -- The re-carpeting of rooms 223, 225, 227 and 229 is complete.

Union Day Lot (Simon Contractors, August 2018) -- Minor repairs and maintenance of the Day Lot has been completed.

Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts (Knife River; August 2018) -- The south parking lot is open.

Crane Parking Lot (Knife River; August 2018) -- The east parking lot is open.

Arena-Auditorium Steam Tunnel (UW Operations) -- Welding and plumbing crews have completed the installation of the new steel piping in the Arena-Auditorium tunnel.

Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center (UW Operations) -- The plumbing shop welding crew has completed installing new control valves and piping to the rooftop unit No. 4.

Biological Sciences Building (UW Operations) -- The welding and plumbing crews have completed installing the new steam control valves in the basement mechanical room.

Ross Hall (UW Operations, Structural Trades) -- Construction is complete on phase one of the second floor and phase two in the east wing of the basement in Ross Hall.

Mick and Susie McCurry High Altitude Performance Center (Construction manager at risk GE Johnson Construction Wyoming LLC, Jackson; July 2018) -- Work is complete and the building is occupied.
